Oral syringe for freezing colostrum - where to buy?

Can anyone point me in the direction of being able to find the best place to buy sterile 5ml oral syringes for storing and freezing colostrum?

I bought a handful from Lloyds Pharmacy but upon unwrapping them have found out they are not sterile and not to be used in a freezer.

A quick look online on amazon and some medical supplies websites hasn't helped and I can't identify a brand that is suitable.

Can anyone advise me what they have used and where I can buy the product. Thanks!

I have no idea about the freezing bit, but ds used to have them for medical purposes and although they don't come sterile, they can be sterilised in the same ways that you would use for bottles. (May not apply to all brands though)

Actually thinking about it, does it need to be an actual oral syringe? Could you use a normal syringe without a needle? I am sure ds has been given medication orally but using an ordinary syringe. May still be a problem freezing?

Boots behind the counter?

Just out of interest why are you doing this? Can't you just wait till the baby is here and can feed from you?

Will try Boots and be a bit more specific when I ask the pharmacist. I had latch issues first time round and still have the scars from the damage caused. If I encounter the same problem again, having some colostrum in reserve will give me a bit of a back up and time to try to resolve the issue.

Ask at the hospital?

They gave me boxes of 'em

I have googled the brand that ds has - Medicina. The non sterile ones can be sterilised using the cold water method. They also make sterile ones I dont suppose you need a box of 100 but a pharmacy may have single ones you can buy. But cant see anything about freezing as I am sure it isnt something people would usually do. Also would they keep the contents sterile anyway?

Thanks Starfishmummy - I'll check out that brand. I'm possibly being over-cautious given that the milk can be frozen in bags.

Ask your midwife, they should have packs of syringes for harvesting colostrum. I was told to do this as I had gestational diabetes and they were providing the packs in either the diabetic clinic in hospital or with the midwife. Good luck!
