D+V bug and breastfeeding a newborn..

DS is 10 days old and had dropped more than 10% of his birthweight by day 4. Got it down to an 8% loss yesterday and feeding him as much as I can/as he demands. He is ebf.

Now I have a sickness and Diaherrea bug Sad
Will the bug pass on in my breastmilk? Will it affect my supply? Will he become dehydrated? What can i do to help the situation? Is he going to carry on gaining weight or are we doomed? Sad

Im already knackered as it is without this! Confused

As far as I know, you should continue to bf as it will help pass on the antibodies your body has already started making. For what it's worth, my LO dropped a lot & I have to follow a tense feeding schedule. She's now 4.5 months, EBF, 91st percentile and in 6-9 month clothes. Sorry to hear that you are unwell- you must be exhausted! Try to nap, get help and drink plenty if fluids. Lo won't dehydrate, if on demand, but you might x

Sorry had not have to follow a schedule

Have you had him checked for tongue tie? Just wondering with that weight loss.

Yes carry on bf, just be scrupulous about washing hands and kissing him. It should pass in 48 hours - make sure your DH/DP steps in and looks after you.

Poor you, cherrycherry and congrats on new baby!

As Bunny said, keep feeding and baby should be fine as you've been doing well to get her back on track - you're the one to worry about. If I were you I would go on those dioralyte sachets to make sure you're rehydrating as much as possible (Google to make your own - basically water, sugar and salt).

Get well soon x

As others have said, keep feeding.
I had D&V over Xmas last year and DS was about 10weeks old, hard as it was to feed him whilst on the toilet etc he didn't catch it.
I would just feed him and hand him back to DH.

Also use lots of hand sanitiser to stop passing it on.
Drink as much as you can.

Hope you're better soon.

Thanks for all your advice, luckily its slowed down alot now, must be over the worst but still have stomach ache so its still lurking..
Managed to feed DS once so far and have put him straight down, he seems okay.
Will try and drink and eat as much as I can but think it will be a day in bed for me- i feel like a zombie Confused
Its comforting to know he probably wont get it!

Cant remember who asked about tounge tie- we dont think he has a tt, his latch is fine and my nipples arent sore. We think the weight loss is a result of a big baby + C section + milk only coming in on day 4. Happened with my DD also with the same circumstances so not neccessarily worried this time around just the D+V is a bit of a setback...

Thanks again Thanks

Poor you! When this happened to me with a six-week-old, I got the GP to write me a prescription to stop me vomiting, which helped a bit. DS didn't get it, thank goodness. As miserable days go, having to stop in the middle of breastfeeding my newborn to go and throw up, whilst looking after my vomiting toddler, is right up there in my top ten.

Lady that sounds horrid! Luckily my toddler is at her grandparents for the weekend so only have DS to deal with right now.
Managed to take my daily Spatone and some paracetamol. Been sipping water loads, going to try some toast or something next...
Already had a nap and its not even the afternoon yet, don't have the energy to shower but I want to Sad
