Worse when feeding.

Try putting gentle pressure on it whilst feeding and using a stroking motion to encourage milk flow towards the nipple. May take a few feeds but will clear

jimijack · 09/10/2013 11:39

Thanks very much, will do.
I've been feeding for nearly 10 months with only a milk blister 2 weeks ago. Don't know why I'm having these problems now.

Just looked in this topic with view to starting same thread. You have my sympathies it hurts! Think I remember reading that holding the shower head on it can help?
Ouch. It's hurting me to feed on that side too, feel like DS is pulling the nipple too, if that makes sense? If I feed him on other side, he keeps kneeing me exactly where the lump is.Hmm

mrsyattering · 09/10/2013 11:52

Hot shower, massaging downwards this may help in itself. Check nipple, friend could actually see blockage and carefully used an needle to remove it (milk sprayed every where!)

JustBecauseICan · 09/10/2013 11:55

Can you see a white spot? I pierced mine with a needle as pp has said, and it went pfwooooooosh and deflated like a balloon. It was ecstasy!

jimijack · 09/10/2013 14:48

No white spot. Feel like I've been kicked really hard.

It hurts such allot to feed on that side, but trying to keep boob empty.

If I feed on the other side, baby knees or kicks it. I could cry.

How are you feeling op? Any better?

NomDeClavier · 10/10/2013 08:26

When you feed does it actually dislodge the blockage or can you feel it still building up? Combing around the lump with a wide toothed comb under a hot shower and a bit of hand expressing was magic for me, if ouchy at the time.

Have you checked latch recently? Sometimes BFing becomes so easy we forget that babies' jaws change shape with teeth and just general growing that latch can deteriorate which causes issues.

jimijack · 10/10/2013 15:20

Feel like I have been kicked in the bussom. Cannot feel anything dislodge no.

I'm trying to feed short but frequent bursts on that side & massage as baby feeds. Taking brufen & paracetamol.

DH suggested this morning that it might be time to stop bf.....but how???? It really upset me.

Oh OP, I tried to get on here last night to post the same thing! This is my 3rd time in 6 months and it had developed since tues afternoon, tried everything and couldn't clear it (feeding/pumping/shower/combing/massaging)- even tried olive oil on my nipple as I read somewhere that it could help to dislodge a blockage in the nipple even though I couldn't see one.

This morning- it's fixed! What fixed it I hear you sob? Fill a disposable nappy with HOT tap water, wring out and stick it down yer bra. Have a cuppa with your feet up for an hour or so and mn away. Then feed, feed, feed! Worked for me anyway.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you- it's bloody painful, especially when you get a boot in the boob! Keep up with ibuprofen too, it will help with the inflammation.

Wincher · 10/10/2013 15:46

I've also been suffering (ds2 is 4 weeks). It was agony on Monday, then got feverish Monday night and felt v unwell Tuesday so assumed it was mastitis. Have felt better since then and the breast has got less painful, but the lump and redness is still there. Have tried combing it, massage while feeding, hot showers/baths etc. I wish it would clear up!

jimijack · 10/10/2013 15:46

Ahhh I read that about the nappy on kellymom.gonna give it a go at tea time as ds cluster feeds in the evening.
Willing to try ANYTHING right now.

With all respect to your DP now is possible the worst time to stop. The only thing that's going to get that bugger sorted is extracting the milk.

If you can't feel something moving chances are it isn't. Have you tried feeding in different positions? Jaw towards lump is a classic for draining a specific area.

SearchingforSleep · 10/10/2013 17:01

Huge sympathies OP. Blocked ducts are truly horrible. Confused

Have you tried feeding on all fours(!) so that gravity is working with you to help shift it? Not very glamorous admittedly but it did help me. I was also told at one point that gentle massage with an electric toothbrush can help - I haven't tried this one myself but imagine it could be pretty painful. Hmm

Other than those, heat and gentle massage as others have said and feed, feed, feed!

Lots of luck getting it shifted...

jimijack · 10/10/2013 19:57

Don't know if it's the paracetamol & brufen working but it feels much better tonight.

Keeping massage & feeding up.

Thanks for advice & sympathies, it's good to know you are there.
