Vaginitis (tmi, sorry!)

Sorry, far too much information but I wondered if anyone else has had this. I thought I had a prolapse as it feels like there's something there, iyswim. But the gynaecologist says I have dry skin in my vagina and has put 'vaginitis' on the notes. Apparent it's due to having less oestrogen because of bfing. He prescribed oestrogen cream but I am reluctant to use it if it's not for a medical reason and just to stop it feeling odd. I've called but don't hold out much hope of being able to speak to anyone again to find out. Does anyone have any experience of this?

I have no experience of this - but I thought dry vaginal skin increased your risk of infection or tears. I think, over time, if that area is dry, the skin can thin, which is not good for your long term vaginal health.

(Did you mean to post this in Breast and bottle feeding?)

Ok, thank you. Yes, meant to post here as the consultant said it was because I was bfing that it was happening. DD2 is nearly six months so am hoping to be feeding less and less over the next six months. Have also read that having oestrogen supplements might affect my milk supply, which worries me as she is a big and hungry baby.

Topical estrogen is unlikely to end up affecting your milk supply, as it should only have a local effect - nothing like taking the birth control pill. I've had a look on Lactimed, and it seems like even transdermal patches with estrogen were fine for breastfeeding mothers.
