5-week old always wanted to feed after nappy change

Just that really. My 5-week old ebf DS always wants to go back to the boob after a nappy change, even if he has just had a really long feed. I suspect it's mainly a comfort thing as he'll often then fall asleep within minutes. However I need to keep him upright for at least 15 minutes after feeding otherwise he gets hiccups.

I don't mind during the day so much (though it makes trying to get out of the house difficult) but at night it means that I can be up for up to 2 hours on one feeding session, once he's had both sides and a change, or sometimes 2. I try to time the nappy change so it's between side swaps but I'm ashamed to say that on occasion if he farts after feeding from both sides and only does a tiny bit of poo then goes to sleep, I've put him back in his moses basket to avoid yet another feed & wind cycle.

Is his behaviour normal? I've already posted about how draining I find breastfeeding and this doesn't really help.

Noisy, do the hiccups bother him? He might have grown out of this tendency now, and you will never know if you don't try!

It's very normal for babies to want to go back to the breast for comfort and to 'round off' the feed before sleeping - as you say, it may be for comfort but that's ok :)

It's fine to put him in his basket if he is asleep - he won't come to any harm with a bit of a poo in his nappy....timing these things perfectly to avoid any contact of skin with wee and poo can be a nightmare!

The only time you would need to do anything different would be if he got a troublesome nappy rash.

Thanks tiktok. He does get a bit upset when he has hiccups and it's definitely still an issue unfortunately. I've even started to wonder if he might have mild silent reflux.

He's a funny one, he'll happily drop off with a pooey bottom but god forbid there's a drop of wee in his nappy, he really lets us know about it!
