When is it OK to use regular cows milk when making babyfood/mixing porridge?

Can I use any regular wholemilk beofre my baby is 12 months old, if I am not using it to substitute other feeds? I'm mostly breastfeeding still and dd2 gets a bottle of formula at bedtime.

Last weekend we were away and I forgot formula milk and bottles. I was able to breastfeed dd2 at bedtime, but in the morning I used watered down regular cows milk to go on her weetabix. I need to know if I'll be able to do that when we go on holiday next month. dd2 is 9 months old.

Thanks

You can just give her normal cow's milk on cereal etc. You're just not meant to give normal cow's milk as her regular drink. (Although some do, at 9 months, and it doesn't seem to harm them.)

I think you can use small amounts in cooking and on cereal from 6 months old and as NQC says it is just that it shouldn't be their main drink.

You can as lazycow says use cow's milk in preparing food from six months, but you should still give formula or breastmilk as a drink - cow's milk doesn't contain enough iron to be baby's regular drink.

Thanks. It's amazing what you forget between having your first and second baby.
