Insatiable sweet tooth

I'm bf'ing my 6 week old. He's quite a frequent feeder, can be every hour and putting weight on.

Anyway, my sweet tooth is all I think about. Seriously, I am getting through packets of biscuits.

Is this normal? How do I manage it? I've lost a bit of weight, though my tummy still quite big (for me). I guess it's probably sleep deprivation too, craving energy.

I think it's normal! I craved chocolate in the early weeks and had nutella on toast, chocolate biscuits, hot chocolate, you name it! It wore off by about 8-9 weeks I think. Your body must need it and it's not for long, though I understand why you would be worried about your weight. Great job on bfeeding so far though.

I have had this problem for TWO YEARS!

DD still breastfeeds and I have to have something sweet every day to keep the cravings at bay. It is stopping me from loosing as much weight through breastfeeding as I would if I wasn't craving sugary food constantly. I can work my way through a whole family sized Cadbury's bar in one day sometimes one sitting Blush

From what I have read this is very common though so it doesn't worry me.

DD is seriously demanding when it comes to feeding though which I think is why my cravings are still going strong.

Thanks for posting. I remember it with ds1 and ds2, but it didn't seem as bad as I have it now. I wish fruit would be maybe something to curb it, but no such luck. It's worse than pregnancy cravings!

Yes I tried lots of fruit too but a few hours later and the craving is back.

Honey or agave syrup is great for me though. I make pancakes and use them liberally and it usually does the trick. I find this slightly healthier than lots of chocolate or refined sugar. I also try eating more dark chocolate from time to time as that is healthier than milk chocolate.

Other than chocolate I don't use sugar in tea/coffee or I use a very reduced amount in custard and other treats to try and find some balance in my diet.

I used to eat barely any sugar until I started breastfeeding so I am certain it will go away once I stop.
