Baby with a tiny appetite

My 16 week old daughter just doesn't drink much. During the day she will have 1 to 2 or sometimes a miracle 3 Oz every 4 hours (occasionally a slurp more at 2 hours but only if I sneak up on her) but only when she is ready. If I try to feed her before she is ready she flatly refuses. Then once her tiny appetite is satisfied it's quite clear she doesn't want any more. Lips tightly shut, blowing mouth fulls of milk everywhere or yelling for me to STOP. I have given up trying to shovel more in as I don't want feeding time to become traumatic for us. She is easier to feed at night with 3 or sometimes a miracle 4 Oz going in. I am still up 2 or 3 times at night. Total daily feed can be less than 20 Oz. She is otherwise smiley and healthy looking but sleeps lots. Does anybody have similar issue and can put my mind at rest.

How much does she weigh?

PoppysMum39 · 02/10/2013 20:02

She was on the 50th percentile but has recently been dropping down a bit. Didn't weigh her on purpose last week as trying not to get obsessed. Will probably get her done tomorrow.

My DS2 was like this dropped steadily down centiles until settled where he should be. Health Visitors and Drs unconcerned said he was just not a big eater and not to worry they wont starve themselves. Take her to get weighed and ask their advice.

My daughter who is 7 months old now has never had much of an appetite. She is breast fed on demand and only ever feeds for a few minutes and just ain't very interested. She was born on the 9th centile went up to the 25th back down and up again but has always been healthy and energetic so the hv have never worried.
