Ds' shallow latch following posterior tongue tie snip.

Had the tongue tie snipped nearly two weeks ago. Have tried and tried to get him to keep his mouth wide open and take more of my breast in his mouth. We just always end up with a kind of shallow latch. It doesn't hurt me and he's feeding well... A bit of wind in the evenings and a bit fartyand up 'til late but apart from that no issues. Is this ok, or am I setting us up for probs later on, e.g. when teeth come? He's 8 weeks btw.

In the same situation, so wonder about this myself. Have you got tongue exercises to keep it stretching. The practitioner I saw for my ds's TT didn't say about them, but the lactation consultant did. That and to really keep working on the latch as he needs to relearn.

I only occasionally get a 'good' latch. When I do his head is always titled further back than usual. Just struggling to consistently recreate it.

Thanks, I've not heard about any exercises. What have you been asked to do?

Good morning!

One where I stick my thumb in his mouth with the pad up in his palette, encouraging a wide gape by tilting it and resting the first knuckle on his bottom lip. Then let him sickle for a minute (ish).
First finger in his mouth with the pad on his tongue, very gently teasing it out as he sucks.
Trace around his lips with finger - this makes his tongue try to follow round.
Stick your tongue out at him - for if he's able to copy.

Hope that helps a little.

Ooh, I've been doing the last one anyway because it's cute! Will try the others, thanks Smile
