Anyone tried neonate?! Any good?

My 15 week old has severe reflux, on ranitidine, gaviscon etc. whilst it has improved things, he still doesn't seem right, still griping on feeds a bit, refusing to finish feeds and not sleeping well.
Doc has now put him on neocate lcp and upped his meds to the max dose. Paediatrician said I could see difference immediately from the neocate (like he would neck the food, no griping and wouldn't look back), but dietician said it would take 2 weeks until everything is out his system so will take time.
He refused feeds for 9 hours today (normal and neocate) but finally just managed to get him to take a feed of neocate, straight down the hatch, no worries.
Is it coincidence you think that he had a good feed (which happens sometimes) when I introduced neocate? Or could this actually be the answer you think??
Any experiences welcome!

Thank you.

We moved to Neocate from BF at 4.5 months due to CMA - I definitely noticed less fussing during the actual feed, though like your little one, some of that was probably due to hunger - ours refused to take it for 14 hours! After the first bottle though, he didn't look back so hopefully this will be the same for you.

I thought Neocate was only prescribed for CMA/suspected multiple food allergies rather than just reflux (I don't mean 'just' flippantly, but you know what I mean) or does your GP/Paed suspect allergies as well?

Re the actual improvement of symptoms, we were told it takes 2 weeks for the milk proteins to leave your system, so then another 2 weeks to leave baby's - actually we didn't see significant (ie, ones that others could notice rather than us who could see tiny differences) improvements until around the 6 week mark, but then he became a different baby - ie, happy!

Sorry, yes they suspect cma.
6 weeks?really???

I'm losing the plot, not sure how I can deal with 6 weeks. Just hope something works...

Don't lose faith - honestly, if it is CMA then you will be so elated by the changes in the end that the wait will be worth it. We had video of our son pre-diagnosis that we showed to the Paed - when I look at it now it makes me cry because I can't believe the difference and I almost can't remember how unbelievably unhappy our poor baby was.

The most amazing thing now is how everyone who meets him comments on how smiley and content he is (not boasting by the way, they haven't seen him at bedtime!) - I barely took him out before because I couldn't bear people looking at me with my constantly screaming baby.

Good luck - and it WILL get better.

Actually, don't panic as I just realised my mistake - the reason it took 6 weeks to see improvements was because I was still bf'ing so it took time for the proteins to leave my system.
As you are going onto neocate though hopefully you should see differences within 3 weeks.
Sorry!

3 weeks is better...but still.

Thanks for the encouragement. Keeping fingers crossed he will feel better soon.xx

Ooh, a few days. Even better!
What did you guys find weaning was like with cma?

Not started yet - we're starting this weekend. I have heard that some babies refuse to take it as a drink in a cup (maybe that vile smell is just too much in an open cup!) so we'll have to see what he thinks of it!
