Advice needed on bras

Hi there,

This is my 1st post on MN so be gentle with me!
My dd is coming up for 7 months & I have been BFing her with the odd bottle every now & again. I'll be going back to work soon but want to carry on BF if I can in the morning & last thing at night.
Now this is going to sound a bit odd but I'd really like to be able to wear a normal underwired bra while I'm at work if I can. Has anyone done this or is it a big no no for the milk ducts? A factor in this I wear a 32G so have problems with bras at the best of times & really want to have a bra that makes me feel & look reasonable at work.

Also will my milk supply carry on going if I just feed twice a day? (I plan to feed during the day when I'm not at work or will that confuse my body too much?)
Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks
Bean

I did the morning and night feeds for a long time after I'd stopped the rest of the feeds. dont remember having any problems.
I switched to a normal bra after a while, once my milk supply had decreased a bit.

I think that if your underwired bra fits perfectly and the wires are not pressing on any breast at all then it should be OK. I would recommend John Lewis or Bravissimo for a good fitting. M&S and Debenhams kow b*gger all about fitting bras in large cup sized ladies. I know how you feel about wanting normal bras. It's so hard when all the big cup sized feeding bras are so grotty, ugly and give no support!

Hi,

My dd is 8 months and I have just done what you are proposing in the last week!
I do not have the excuse of going back to work... just am so sick of awful ugly nursing bras that make your boobs look horrid!
So anyway, I am back in underwired bras 34E, if thats relevent, and so far no problems.
Milk supply fine. Do feed first thing then after breakfast, then nothing until after supper at 5.30pm.
I was really aware of bra for the first couple of days, but all as normal now.
I have only got one bra at the moment, have to wear ugly bra while i wash it, as I'm wondering if they might shrink now I'm feeding less. So far no obvious change though.

I am sahm but have worn 'normal ' bras for ages - cos I can't stand the ugly wide straps etc. my jugs aren't very big - but underwired bras have been fine

ps was def not wearing feeding bras at christmas when dd was 7 months

Bean74 · 25/06/2006 21:21

Thanks all for your responses - looks like a trip to Bravissimo is in order!! Am quite excited about the thought of a nice bra for the first time in over a year!!
One more q - do you find you still need to wear nursing pads? I have carried on with them but rarely find I'm leaking (but then would hate to leak in a meeting or something!!)

I am until I can be more sure i won't leak... am more worried as cut out feed and early days yet! I want to be sure that won't have an accident!
Just had a look though and they are completley dry.
But TBH everyone is different so can't really advise you.

I didn't have a leaking problem after a few months - I would be wary around the time you would normally feed though if you are cutting out feeds to go to work - You really would hate to get that let down feeling at an inopportune moment!
