DD was born on Saturday evening. We've had some problems latching and she was diagnosed with tt on Sunday. All day Sunday she wouldn't latch and ended up giving her donor milk from a syringe and some hand expressed colostrum.

Then Sunday night she started latching. The latch isn't brilliant and it takes a while of us both getting frustrated but eventually she does stay on for between 5-20 minutes.

So MWs then said we could stop with the donor top ups, as her blood sugar went up. She's still quite sleepy and
yesterday I had to really coax
her to feed and we do a lot of
crying before we manage the
latch (both of us!). She's had
a few wet nappies and regular
poos. But not sure if that's because of my milk or donor stuff (last donor top up was 2am on Sunday).

Basically, I'm worried the tt is effecting her ability to latch and that she's not really transferring milk. It's so hard to tell. She seems satisfied coming off the boob, but she's look sleepy if blood sugars were low too, wouldn't she? She fed about 3/4 times over night last night from 8pm til 7am this morning. Sometimes she wakes got it and sometimes I've woken
her.

We've been in near constant skin to skin since birth. Milk coming in now and have an appointment with a private tt specialist/lactation consultant this afternoon. She's also only really latching one side, which I don't care massively
about really, as long as she's doing something. I'm
going to buy a pump this
morning and pump the other
side but don't really want to top up as I want her to do it herself.

Does all this sound ok-ish? What am I missing?

I you are buying a pump, get a really good one if finances allow, I loved the ameda lactaline. If not, just go for one with a closed system rather than an open one.

I'm sure she is feeding well from what you say and its normal for a newborn to prefer one side. Have you tried her on the other side in a rugby hod or lying down?

Congratulations too Thanks
