Fussy 3 week old - trying to work out why!

For the past week or so my 3.5 week old DD has been really fussy while bfing - she will often pull on my nipple and then sort of mush her face back in, while squirming and making a fuss - she won't unlatch though. It hurts! I am trying to work out whether its an oversupply, undersupply or wind problem! Or just no reason! I wind her between feeds - admittedly sometimes for quite a short time...she doesn't seem too bad with wind/ reflux, she does spit up a bit but doesn't seem too bothered by it. I feel I have more oversupply than under as she tends to splutter etc especially in the morning when there is more milk, so I leave back etc to try and ease things. But this nipple pulling! Tried leaning back, forward, winding, nothing helps Hmm anyone else experienced this? I called my local bfding support line and they were v nice but didn't seem to know why she is doing this either and just said I seem to be doing fine... Any insights from your experiences appreciated!

You're saying she does it during a feed - when during a feed? At the start, at the end, during the let down?

If you're in Islington, as your name implies, you could go along to a local group, and let them see it happening? Odds are she would feed perfectly then, though, just to be contrary.

Thanks for quick reply! Trying to think...she does it more middle and end rather than beginning. Yes maybe let down related? I went to a group last week but she slept the entire time and I didn't want to wake her, doh! I think I will go again next week and make sure she feeds in front of someone just in case they can help...

Middle sounds like she could be fussing when things have slowed down? I would try taking her off, when she's fussing and see what's happening, if it's because of let down, then you'll be spraying across the room. (Also - does she fuss more on the early feeds?)

If it's because of things slowing down, then maybe just swap boobs when she starts fussing (and swap back again later). If it's because of an overactive let down, then leaning back can help, or the techniques for slowing down oversupply (block feeding, basically).
