Moving from EBF to FF - follow on milk....?

DS is almost 6 months old and EBF. For a variety of reasons I want to move him to formula at 6 months. He takes a bottle fine, has an expressed bottle each day from DP and expressed bottles all day long on the occasional days I am away from him.
I'm mystified though by the array of formula milk available - first milk, hungry baby milk, follow on milk.......
DP is convinced we should go to follow on milk as it says from 6 months on the tub, but I'm sure I've heard others saying its just a marketing ploy and all they need is first milk. What is best for introducing as a first go at formula to a 6 month old?

I'm hopefully going to do the same I've checked with hv and she said use first milk, they can be on that up to a year.

I've looked into this- DD is only 15 weeks but I researched it. The nhs websites implies that there is no benefit to follow on milk and that the best formula milk is first milk. Hth

I changed to follow on so I could get points at Boots. I've not noticed any difference.

Follow on milk IS just a marketing ploy as it allows formula companies to advertise and promote where they can't with first milk. It's best to stick to first milk.

Follow on milk can be cheaper, promoted, and give you points.

But it can also cause really wicked constipation in babies - to make it different from first milk, they add iron, but the iron is mostly not absorbed by the baby. So, as with iron supplements they give adults, it causes problems in the gut.
