Any tips for helping baby cope with fast let down?

Hello there! I have a 20 day old EBF baby who is suffering with wind! I think I have quite a fast let down. She sometimes appears to be drinking at quite a rate, gulping rapidly and takes on quite a lot of air at the same time, poor love! She then seems quite uncomfy after a feed, arching her back, grimacing, appearing to cry in discomfort. I was just wondering if anyone else had experience of this and is there ways I can help her? Thank you!

I have this on one side in particular. I had to express a lot initially and I think it's messed up my supply, leading me to have a bit of oversupply, which I think can be connected to fast letdown. Two key tips are apparently to express (e.g. by hand) a little initially, before the start of the feed, and then the milk flow will slow down. Another is to start the feed with the baby feeding but as soon as you feel your milk has letdown (don't know how you do this as I think it comes immediately with me!) to break the baby off (eg via sticking a finger in her mouth) and capture the milk in a muslin for a minute before reattaching the baby. My baby is a few weeks older and I can now feed him in more of an upright position - he sits up against me and this is also supposed to help.

Google "biological nurturing" it makes a massive difference.

Thank you so much for your replies! I You Tubed biological nurturing, just have it ago and it appeared to work a treat, so thank you very very much! Grin
I thought I could try feeding in a upright position when I'm out and about and see if that eases things a bit for her?
Thank you ladies, you have been a great help! Smile

So glad it worked out for you Lola

Lola i could have written the same op about my 17 day old DS. My right boob seems to produce much more than the left and ds often gulps on it then ends up with terrible wind. I shall try some of the above suggestions too :-)
