Over Feeding a Formula Baby

My son, 4weeks old, keeps crying the last few days, where he is generally a happy baby. I rang the health Visitor to hear if i need to be concerned, she said he is probably hungry, he is already drinking 120ml every 3 hours taking him to 8 bottles a day. The tin recommends feeding him 120ml every 4 hours so if i feed him anymore will i be over feeding him?
Does any one have some advise? :(

Ignore the tin, if he's hungry he's hungry. Babies have growth spurts and during these times they will want to feed a lot more often. Some babies, eat more than others, some babies eat small amounts more often, if you feed on demand he's getting what he needs. The info on the tin is a guideline only, each baby is different. Increase the amount in each feed, if he still wants more in a few days increase it again.

Totally agree. Please don't leave your baby hungry because of what it says on the tin. Is she very tall by any chance? Often tall babies drink more milk. Did the HV mention that you should be feeding on demand? Smile

I fed dd three hourly. She took, at that age, four ounce feeds (sometimes a bit less). A friends baby was having 6/7 oz feeds every three hours. Both happy healthy babies! Some are just more hungry.

BF babies are often fed on demand, I've never really understood why FF babies aren't. I've not FF so I'm sorry I can't say anything more helpful, but if I did I suspect I would still end up feeding on demand and not worry too much about what the tin said. I may of course be horribly wrong though!

These you are not wrong, the tin is. The current guidelines are to feed on demand, no matter how you feed your baby Smile

Thank you everyone :) I feel much better now, no one mentioned feeding on demand since we are FF.
JiltedJohnsJulie, he is indeed a tall skinny baby so I guess he wants to drink more :)
