After weeks of low weight gain (which I posted on this board about) I contacted LLL and ended up going to see one of their consultants who said 10 week old DD has an ULT and a PTT. I am now waiting for an appointment to gnipple PTT snipped. It is the all too familiar story of this being missed by a HV, GP and a breastfeeding leader - that's a whole different thread but I am still annoyed at being told by the latter that I must be 'one of these women who just can't produce enough milk'.
Anyway, I have been reading up on PTT and it seems the majority of cases were causing pain for the mother when feeding. I had pain and bleeding in the first week but since then it has been fine, it is the low weight gain that has been the problem. I'm assuming that fixing the PTT will improve the efficiency of feeding and therefore DD's weight should improve - is this likely to be the case? As DD is a little older will she need to re-learn effective sucking?
