Toddler's crap latch.

14mo DD has always struggled to get a good latch on my left boob, my nipple is quite flat and we've had a bit of a battle to make it this far. I thought we were sorted fir a while though.
Recently (possibly because she's too long for me to hold comfortably tummy to tummy) it feels like she's shredding my nipple during some feeds.
It isn't unbearable but we had an episode a few months ago where she had one lazy feed in the night and she wore a hole in my boob with her new tooth Shock so I'm a little paranoid about that happening again!

The thing is, I can't get anyone to check her latch because there is no way she'll feed with anybody in the room, she's too nosy easily distracted.
I really want to feed her until she self weans, but it would be nice to be comfortable while I'm doing it!
I don't know what advice I want really, maybe just to get it all down so I can try to figure it out myself! Grin

If you made it to the end then thanks for reading Wink

Not an expert on bf toddlers but could she be teetying again as that always seems to make the latch worse. Rather than tummy to tummy could you try it with her more on her back with lots of cushions to help? Maybe Google toddler feeding positions? Sorry not much help, hopefully someone who knows more will be along in a minute.

My 17 month old does the shredding thing sometimes. It's usually teething or just laziness on my part that causes it.

I take him off & go back to basis - a wide month, head slightly tilted back when feeding and keep doing it until its comfortable. I haven't found positions have made much difference but worth a go. I think they have to keep relearning once teeth start coming in. DS has almost a full set now and it's been much better.

Thanks, it probably is teething (isn't it always??) the trouble with latching and unlatching is that she bites when she gets frustrated, which is something I've been working on, but between the boring and the rubbish latch feeds are a bit tense at the minute! Which is probably also not helping.
I'll try more cushions etc and see how it goes Smile
