Would you buy a 2nd hand breast pump?

I really wants medula swing but just can't afford it. Have seen some on eBay but just not sure about re-using. I know they would be sterilised (and I would re-sterilise) but still not sure if it feel a bit personal.

The best pump I have ever used is the Lansinoh hand-held breastpump (around £20). Others I have used are the avent hand held, the medala swing, and the medala mini electric, but I have found the Lansinoh hand held the best by far. I too wouldn't buy a 2nd hand pump which didn't have a "closed" system as they can get all sorts of bacteria in the internal workings which can't be sterilised. All rental and hospital pumps have the closed system. The ameda electric pumps are similarly priced and have the closed system which is fine if you are buying 2nd hand.

I bought an Ameda lactaline second hand and loved it. Simply wouldn't have been able to afford one new. We lost one of the valves and their spares service was great too, it arrived the next day.

Haven't read the whole thread so sorry if I'm repeating. If you are buying secondhand look for a pump with a closed system, not an open one.

There is some good information on expressing on kelkymom, including buying a ore owned pump Smile

I bought a second hand Philips Avent one because its a closed system (it got a thorough clean). I wouldn't buy an open system breast pump, new or second hand!

I used a second hand swing- I had never heard of needing to make sure a closed system though
