I had the midwife come for her visit today and my baby has thrush in hes mouth.
Been over to the doctors who gave me a prescription for drops for baby and cream for me
The cream is called clotrimazole, does anyone know ifthis need washing off before feeding and if so would a quick wipe with a babywipe would do or a proper wash with water? Scared I'll poisen him!

It doesn't say, other than to use sparingly after each feed, but this document seems to be the best resource on the web. My dr even looked if up when figuring out my treatment.

I have recurrent nipple thrush with BFing and my dd has had it orally. We were prescribed Dakartin gel instead of clotrimazole as you can leave this on. It's used before and after feeds and is a sugary, orangey tasting gel.

Personally I'd wipe clotrimazole off as my tube says to avoid ingesting. Can you do that for now and then find a pharmacist to ask tomorrow or ring your GP to double check.

I was prescribed this for me and daktarin for dd. I asked if it needed to be washed off and the GP said sort of (!) but there'd be so little on my nipple by the next feed that it wouldn't do any harm.

The absolute best thing I did to permanently get rid of thrush was to get some probiotic drops for dd and probiotic tablets for me. The thrush needs treating at its source, which is in the gut.

I'm going to be trying the cream. I got some from the pharmacy after being fobbed off by my go this morning. He claimed the pain was engorgement and should go in a few weeks if I feed more. He said it couldn't be thrush because he couldn't see the spots on my nipples and because I'd had the tablets for 7 days. So I was not to get any more treatment. I spoke to another gp the day before and she said that sometimes breastfeeding it just painful, there's nothing that can be done. Needless to say I'm feeling distressed.
Support group Monday - hopefully my salvation.
