Heard about it on mumsnet, read the book a few weeks ago and last night at about 1am decided to go for it.
Didn't mind the feeds during the night so much it was the human limpet behaviour between 4am and 6:30 which was keeping me awake and exhausting.
So last night every time DS woke up I fed him, moved him off and he screamed and cried but only for a couple of minutes and then cuddled me and went to sleep. So far so good. Unfortunately I'm guessing he isn't as sound asleep as if he'd had milk. As he kept waking up so we had to do crying and cuddling over again a few times everytime he woke up.
Then we got to 5am and it was really bad. He was very upset on and off for 50minutes. We did lots of cuddling but also lots of crying. But then he slept from 5:50 to 7:50 with no comforting at all. So think pretty good all in all.
Anyway essay over but that was night one of our night weaning adventures.
Anyone else?

Ooh I want to do this! DD (almost 1)has an ear infection so going to wait till that's gone before we start. There is human limpet behaviour 4-6.30 here too! it's like newborn cluster feeding all over again but morning instead of evening, How old is your DS?

mamapants · 29/08/2013 19:18

DS is just over 13 months. Am just getting ready for night number two.
Wasn't too tired today considering. And think DP loved having a lie in till 7:30 as DS is normally up at 6:30 and I go back to bed and the boys get up.
Crazy how parenting makes you think 7:30 is a lie in!

Hope tonight goes well for you mamapants.

Yep it is bonkers that 7.30 is a lie in, I was so thrilled a few months ago when DD slept 11-5 that I emailed my whole family. I think they were Hmm

Let me know how it goes!

Thanks for the well wishes gunpowder.
How is your dd? Any better?
Last night went pretty well. He still wasn't impressed each time and had a cry and a cuddle and a bit of pulling my hair. But he did go to sleep on his own each time and didn't stir so many times as the first night. He went back to sleep much quicker at 5am but that was still the longest.
Pretty tired today, ended up asleep with ds at 7.
Glad I have gone for it. Kept putting it off as I felt mean but ds was getting in the habit of feeding more and more I think instead of less.
Now I'm back at work doing 3 days a week and I'm pregnant something had to be done.

Oh and I'm really jealous of the 11-5. DS hasn't managed that in months and he only ever did it twice!

She's a bit better thank you! Has had some calpol and out for the count for the moment at least.

Glad it is going on the right direction for you, it is giving me hope that it may work for us. All my friends put their DC into a strict routine from the beginning so I don't know anyone who has had to night-wean in real life. I don't dare tell them we are still co sleeping, they would be horrified!

Fingers crossed for an even better night for you and your DS. Congratulations on your pregnancy. That would spur me on too, although there is far too much feeding at the mo; another reason for night weaning Grin

mamapants · 02/09/2013 17:38

Well I'm not doing very well. Last 2 nights were meant to be no milk nights but I didn't do it. He would look at me and say mama I want that in a pitiful voice and I couldn't not.
Perhaps its time to get DP to take over.

Oh that's so cute! I would be powerless to resist too. Yep sounds like it's time to bring in the big guns. DH is desperate to nightwean DD / get her out of our bed, little does he realise he will be able to share the night wakings when we do Grin I am thinking about starting tonight - eek!

mamapants · 05/09/2013 19:11

Hi gunpowder sorry haven't been back and wished you luck! How has it gone? Were you brave?
DP has been in charge at our house, with me sleeping in the other room. And it has kind of worked. He's gone 3 nights without a night feed. I think night one I fed him at 5:40 rather than wait till 6. But 7pm till 5:40 without milk is pretty amazing. He has had trouble sleeping but last night did seem better.
And as a side effect he's eating more food which is good.
Hope everything is going well with you and that your DD is coping with the change.

Thanks mamapants Smile .

I'm afraid I have let the side down a bit and am failing miserably. I'm obviously not determined enough! I thought I managed to do 11-5 last night but then realised my pj top was open so I must have fed her in my sleep! Quite impressed with her steath feeding skills.

Has been a hectic couple of days and I have been working (usually SAHM) so maybe my timing is off. I'm going to try again in a couple of weeks.

So pleased it's working for you though. I think 7-5.40 is BRILLIANT. And so good your DH is so supportive. This is giving me hope that it will eventually work for us too.
