3 week old bf ds. Last night, after a big cluster feed, had me up every 2 hrs for a feed. Hmm, growth spurt, I thought, par for the course, sleep when they sleep blah blah blah. Only trouble is toddler dd up at 6 every morning and very active until nightmare bedtime where I have to stay in her room for over an hour.

Now tonight ds seems to have been constantly feeding since about 5pm. He's still going now. Oh, so maybe this is the growth spurt?

Please can people reassure me that a) he'll let me go to sleep soon and b) this will be over soon??? Thanks Smile

It seems never-ending when it's happening but it will pass, honestly. Can you get any help with entertaining your dd, especially towards the end of the day?

hghkjh · 28/08/2013 22:58

Some days I can. Today has not been one of those though... Dh is currently trying to keep ds happy by sort of 'jiggling' him so I can maybe get 10 mins sleep

The growth spurts usually only last a couple of days :) keep going your doing brilliantly!

It will pass! In early days DD fed endlessly, it seemed. By the time I'd handed her off to DH and got into bed to rest she was rooting again. I gave up on the 'sleep when they sleep' thing early on and just rode the sleep deprivation wave - although I only have one, so easier to muddle on in a blur.

It did, of course, calm down. Now, 4 months in, it's all I can do to get her to eat every 3 hrs for 5 mins during day...

OP your post has made me panic Shock

What has kept me going with 19 day old DD is if she cluster feeds she tends to go down for about 4 hours. If she doesn't, then it's every 2 hours. Not sure I could cope with cluster feeding AND every 2 hours at night. Guess ill find out in a few days!

I remember the three week growth spurt - yuck! I hope it passes soon for you both x

Thanks for posts of encouragement and reassurance. Ds went down soon after my post last night and slept 'til 4am, hooray! Unfortunately dd woke up crying at 2am, Sod's law Grin

Unfortunately he has been asleep since about 5.30pm this evening and showing no interest in waking up when a nipple is rubbed against his mouth, so I'm expecting a hell of a night tonight. Only consolation is that I know from dd that it won't last forever, and in a few months I should have the majority of my evenings back and be sleeping a lot longer

Bloody hell it's exhausting being a mum isn't it? I suppose that bit never changes though, for one reason or another. I keep reminding myself that I knew I wasn't signing up for a walk in the park when I chose to have a 2 year age gap.

Lovely to have mn to vent and get empathy and advice from people going through the same thing.

My ds2 is now 6 weeks and I was fucking stupidly away from home at 3 weeks staying within laws at their holiday house. I spent most of the 'holiday' holed away with the baby whilst dh took ds1 to beach etc.

It passes but I'm expecting another one soon. Just as we're getting in to some semblance of a pattern.

It's fecking exhausting with another one but I'm eternally grateful that dh's job means I can normally get 1.5 hours in the morning as he gets up with ds1, I then feed ds2 and he takes both of them. He chucks the youngest in the sling as that normally keeps him quiet.

Good luck. You're not alone! x
