Having a few problems.

DS is 5 weeks old and I've been having a few minor problems.

It sometimes takes him a while to latch on. My nipple seems to fall out of his mouth quite a few times during each feed, which makes milk spray everywhere. Especially as sometimes he takes a which to latch back on. I think because of this, he just gives up, but then will want feeding again very soon after. During the day, the longest he will go between feeds is an hour. I have a half an hour dentist appointment tomorrow and I'm so worried he's not going to last that long without being fed.

He's also very fussy during the evening. He will start sucking very fast and arching his back and pulling at my nipple, then start screaming. I have a strong let down, I'm not sure if that's something to do with it? He only does this in the evenings.

He's 91st centile, putting on weight fine and hasn't lost any weight since birth. (put on 4oz in the first 5 days) plenty of nappies.

Has he been checked for tongue tie?

Not that I know of. Does it sound like it could be? TT never even crossed my mind.

I could have wrote that post, word for word!

Same age, same percentile and all the same problems!

I went to see a breastfeeding counsellor last Fri who said LO has a posterior tongue tie, saw hv same day who has referred us to the hospital. Now just have to wait for an appointment and hopefully after the procedure to remedy the tt things will get a little easier.

I think getting your LO checked for tongue tie would definitely be the best starting place.

(I also have fast let down, if you look on net there's some advice as to how to help baby, like feeding with baby higher than breast and block feeding)

Sounds symptomatic of tt. Get LO checked by an expert (ie not mw or gp) - are there bf groups in your area? The counsellors/ lactation consultants at those are usually good at identifying it and can often refer you to the hospital clinics to get it seen to. Otherwise you can go private (which is what I had to do as GP refused to even entertain the possibility DD was tt - in fact she was VERY tt!). If you're in London I can recommend a great private bf drop-in where there's also a tt specialist who can do the snip on the spot) - pm me if you want the details.
