MAM bottles and teats - can anyone advise if they work well?

Hello, I am mix feeding at the moment while waiting for breast milk to kick in proper and using Tommy Tippee closer to nature teats and bottle but really not liking them at all. In the hospital I used disposable NUK but so far reviews of the non-disposable have been mixed. MAM ones get a better review but just wondering what other users think of them? Thank you

It might help if you clarify a bit, are you planning to breastfeed? As you may want to try and limit the amount of bottles you give so mightn't be worth buying many right now. To get your milk in baby will need to feed from breast as much as possible.

I used closer to nature for expressed milk, then avent after a bit as it fitted my pump better.
What is it you're not liking about Tommee tippee?

Ah sorry some reason I misread and thought you were asking in general about teats. I didn't use the MAM ones

I use them. Washing is a pain as it has 6 parts but sterilising is easy. If you warm or cool the bottles than it takes double the time as other bottles as they are hard plastic. You need to make sure that you screw the bottom properly, otherwise they can leak.. I suggest you only get one first and try different types as well, my DD refused to drink from Avent or tommee tippee but took the MAM bottles straight away.

I am breastfeeding at the moment but for around 10 to 15 minutes at a time, I have always had ultra sensitve nipples so that's about as much of the stinging and pain I can take at the moment before wanting to pass out! So I do need to bottle feed her until I can get sorted with the breasts. The Tommy ones seem to leak loads - could be I am not using them right!

We use MAM bottles and love them for the ease of sterilising. We only have a small kitchen so I wanted to avoid buying a steriliser (we use milton tablets in a big tupperwarw for any other random stuff).

My DS has got on really well with them, and my only comment would be that he hasn't been ready to move on to faster flowing teats until about a month after the age suggested on the packaging.

LondonLancashireRose · 25/08/2013 19:23

Oh, and I second making sure the bottoms are tightly screwed on - devastating when EBM leaks!

Helenc19 · 26/08/2013 22:27

Do you mean milk leaks from corner of baby's mouth?
I have mam bottles and like them as does DS, I also got Sony tommy tippee ones such I prefered just because less fiddly to put together and can warm milk quicker but DS Could latch on them properly because of his posterior tongue tie and lip tie and leaked milk. As you are in pain have you had your LO checked for tongue tie?

Mam gave my dd terrible trapped wind, proper screaming in pain.

I bought them as I wanted to avoid a steriliser but ended up putting them in the back of the cupboard and buying a load of dr.browns which we had used for dc1 previously.

Wish we had just stuck with dr.browns from the start, never had a single problem since.

if the milk is leaking from her mouth Google the Best for Babes website and do a search for bottle feeding, there's a really good piece about baby friendly bottle feeding.

Also be aware that your baby might be getting much of what she needs from the breast, and top ups if you do want to bf are best limited to once or twice a day. Can you go to a bf group? Help with latch might help the pain/sensitivity, and they can also help with when/how to add bottles if that's what you decide to do.

Could you use nipple shields? I found the Medela ones excellent. They are available from Amazon.

yasmin26 · 27/08/2013 20:42

I really love the MAM bottles. I have tried Avent, tommee tippee, nuk...and MAM works the best. No wind whatsoever and I like that I can self sterilise them. Have to be careful with screwing the bottom on properly though.

MERLYPUSS · 28/08/2013 16:04

I used mam teats on asda wide neck bottles. no probs with wind and were cheaper than buying specific bottles.
