hi, I am using this formula for my refluxy 8 week old and it is helping. However, the preparation takes forever so I have to try and work out when she will want feeding an hour in advance which is near on impossible.

So how do you make your feeds when you need one ASAP? And what do you do when out and about?

My son is just over a year so has just come off the Aptamil anti reflux stuff-for us it was a god send as improved his reflux so much.
To make bottle how they say is a faff and you will never manage it. We used to put about an once of two (depending on size of bottle) of boiled water in the bottles and then keep them in the fridge. We then when needed just topped up with boiling water added powder then return to fridge for a few minutes to cool. Worked well for us and no tummy trouble at all.
As far as reflux in general we were advised by a paed to wean at the recommended minimum age which was just under 5 months I think. Weaning had a major impact on his reflux expecially as by 5.5 months we did blw so the food was more solid so seemed to help keep the food down.
His reflux seemed to get much better when he crawled as he learnt to cruise too at the same time so was more upright. I was really worried when he approached a year how he would cope with thinner cows milk but actually when we started introducing it we found his reflux was even better again (obviously can't do this before a year though). When he is teething is the only time he really gets it now which I think is the excess dribble causing it.

Thanks florin, she is much better on it but still vomits. I will try the cooled boiled water/ fresh boiled water technique. Its the fact that it needs to be hand hot i am struggling with, i wish they made cartons!
I am off to buy a flask today for when we are out and about.

My ds also had reflux but not as bad as dd, he stayed on normal formula and just stopped vomiting when he got to about ten months. Amhoping dd wont take that long but i have a feeling she will. Glad to hear your ds isdoing well now.

When we were out and also at night we still used bottles with cooled boiled in them and kept them in a little cool bag with an ice pack and had a thermos flask to top them up then put them back in the cool bag if necessary to cool for a few minutes. I don't think you have to worry so much about the water being boiling as in the instructions as you say you only use warm water. Once we had that set up we found it quite easy although like you we really wish they did cartons. He still did vomit but not as much and mainly straight after a bottle. The early weaning really helped it and once I started weaning he was not as bothered by milk and dropped from having about 6-7 bottles a day to 3 or 4 quite quickly. I therefore swapped his routine round sometimes as I found he pretty much only vomited straight after a bottle so if we were going to a baby group around the same time as his 11am bottle I would often give him a snack instead like a cheese straw or two instead. He seemed happy and I just gave him the bottle later. It saved the embarrassment of him being sick on the carpet at baby group for me too.

Rhubarb we are using aptamil 1 but adding cow and gate instant Carobel to thicken it. Had worked a treat, he's hardly sick now! Google it, we got it on prescription from doctors.

Thanks again florin, its really embarrasing isnt it? I am cleaning floors everywhere i go! After my message this morning though she had a massive vomit everywhere :( hope it was a one off

Cannotbelieveit, do you just make the feed as normal and then add the carobel before giving it? Did your little one have any problems with constipation or anything?

Yep make feed as normal add the carobel then leave 3-4 mins (I usually do a nappy change in that time) and its ready to drink!

No problems with constipation if anything he's more regular ad he's getting more milk ( he could easily bring up 1/4 to 1/3 of a bottle and he takes 8oz)

Thanks, that sounds much easier especially as i could still use cartons. Might ask my gp
