hello, this is my first time on mumsnet so please bear with me if i make any mistakes :-)
i have a 12 and a half week old baby and have been breast feeding on demand since she was born. the last few weeks we have been giving her one formula bottle a day to help with her weight gain.
last saturday my daughter stayed at her grandparents for the night and was solely given formula bottles. i resumed with breast feeding after a 24 hour period break as i had had 2 cans the night before and was paranoid the effect it would have on my daughter so she had formula bottles for the following 24 hours.
since then my breasts have not be producing as much milk as they were and i am worried that the 24 hour break has now ruined my chances of continuing to breastfeed effectively as my daughter now wont latch on properly and to be honest seems uninterested with the breast.
i know she is hungry as when she does deny the breast if i give her a formula bottle she gulps it down.
is there anything i can do to get her back interested in breast feeding or increase my milk production or have i ruined it all by having a 24 hour break?
any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
thank you

I'm assuming that you didn't express over the 24 hr period you weren't feeding? If so, then it is possible that your supply could be affected. Also your baby may now have a preference for the faster flow of a bottle compared to having to work slightly harder for breast milk.

If you want to get back to where you were with breastfeeding, I would stop offering bottles and keep offering the breast. Every missed feed will affect your supply as it works on a supply and demand basis. If you end up missing a feed you should express to keep your supply up. You can try hand expressing or perhaps hire a breast pump. It may take a little while for your baby to get used to just having breastfeeds again. Good luck.

thank you for taking the time to offer your advice, it is greatly appreciated.
i will solely offer her the breast from now on and invest in a pump for any missed feeds and see how it goes :-)
