How do I reduce feeds - but keep breastfeeding?

Have been breast feeding DD2 for nearly 15 weeks. She has around 3oz FF every evening - apart from that its been mainly breastfeeding.
I've just been offered a freelance contract which will involve me working from home at least two days a week. It's a great opportunity and will start next week. My mum is going to be helping and I will probably do a nanny share.
However I've decided that while I want to try and breastfeed for 12 months I need to cut down on day feeds. Is it possible to do that after nearly 4 months? I.e breastfeed DD first thing in morning, evening then dream feed and night feed - with FF during 9-5?
Any advice appreciated?

Of course it'd be possible to do this. It's called "mixed feeding". Your body will produce breastmilk on demand so just feed when you want to and your supply will be maintained, and bottle feed when you want as well. Have you thought about expressing? You have the right to express at work if necessary.

Hi Beau am working from home. Will express but wondering how I go about cutting out feeds.

Sorry I missed the 'working from home' line for some reason!

But not sure what you're asking now - do you mean cut down on both breast and bottle feeds? At 4mo you still need to be feeding milk on demand. But she will likely be feeding less often (unless going through a growth spurt Grin)

Mean cut down on bf the two days I work.

Think you just need to give a bottle at the time you usually bf in the day?

I'm also not sure what you're asking. Do you want to FF during the day on your working days, but BF the other days? I think that will impact on your supply, not to mention you being uncomfortably full during your working day.

Unless of course you plan to express during your working days (and store the expressed milk to be used when you're next working)?

I am not sure - was hoping I could BF during the days I don't work - but I think I may need to reduce BF during the days generally. As I may be working more than 2 days a week some weeks.
Problem is I feed on demand and we have no routine apart from bedtime at 10pm!

Think you could try it and see. I give bottles in eve to 7 mo and now I don't produce milk at that time, which is annoying as sometimes it would be more convenient to bf.

CareerGirl01 · 21/08/2013 11:08

So even if I reduce BF during the day I should be able to feed evening/night/early morning?

Yes, after a few days of not feeding during the day, your body will recognise that milk isn't required for those feeds and so will only make milk for the morning, evening and night feeds. You will probably be best to do it gradually though rather than replace all the daytime BF with FF all at once. If you can, perhaps drop one BF at a time, and wait a few days for your body to adjust before dropping another one.
