Hi folks,

My dd is 4 weeks old and we've had a bit of a time of it since she's been born, at 10 days she ended up in hospital with suspected meningitis and was on 2 strong antibiotics for over a week during this she fed a little (she is formula fed) and was on a drip also to keep her hydrated....so finally when we got home she was improving greatly, sleeping well and was up to taking 5 ozs every 3/4 hours....but this last week she's started to become really irritated when feeding, she also has milk spots which are really aggravated looking, so I took her to gp yesterday to get all checked out again, I'm a bit paranoid since being in hospital. He said hew rash was just the milk spots and not to worry, I also got him to check her throat and mouth as she is not happy when taking her bottle and actually cries while taking it, but all was clear......so what could the problem be??? I'm really down today, feeding has just been a nightmare to get her to take more than an oz.....could she be teething??? I really don't know what else to do, any advice would be much appreciated.

A very low frankly

hmm is there definitely nothing in her mouth? i wondered about thrush or something that could be making her mouth sore?

Well this was my thought too, got the oral gel from the pharmacist but would the gp have noticed it and said something? There is some whiteness there which I was putting down to milk?? Should I just start using the gel one see if it makes a difference ???

early on there can be no sign of thrush in the mouth, it kind of develops over time so it's possible there was nothing there when the GP looked
if there is white in her mouth that you can't wipe away then that is quite likely to be thrush

Thanks thisisyesterday ill give the gel a go see if that helps, just had another 2 hour feeding session with only an ounce and half taken, hopefully it is something as simple as thrush....how long should it take to work do you know????
