Question now milk's just come in

Hi,

Ds is 4 days old, milk's come in properly now and there's loads in there. Nipples feel all tingly behind, reminds me when I was cutting down feeds with dd and breasts were getting too full of milk and a bit painful. I know it will sort itself out supply wise but for now ds is only having brief feeds (about 10-15 mins, im an trying to get him to go for longer) and my breast is still soooo full of milk afterwards, still hard and firm and round and tingly. When he's next feeding would you offer the same breast again or offer the other one (as I would if I felt he'd taken most of the milk out of the first breast?)

Tia

Ok, so offer for eg left first then right, then at next feed right first then left?

What if he takes nothing from second breast? Offer first one again next time? Or second one?

Yes I think I had oversupply with dd, lots of dripping and spurting and needing millions of breast pads and severe pain when cutting down feeds / having to hand express for relief in the middle of the night when she started sleeping through. Does that sound like it?

That's what I do - usually offer both (unless I'm topping her up before we go somewhere!). Offer left then right one time, then start with right the next (if I can remember!).

What do you mean you are trying to get him to go for longer - feed for longer or go longer in between?

Neither of mine ever took more than 10 minutes, and usually only one side. Just offer from the unused, or second used, side first next time. It'll sort itself out

BeanoNoir · 08/08/2013 22:19

I meant feed for longer, not go longer between feeds. Just when I had dd I remember being told to try and get longer feeds. Not sure if it's possible though, when they want to fall asleep they fall asleep don't they? I do try to rouse and offer more if he seems to drop off though.

If they aren't bothered, they aren't. Both of mine only fed for 10 mins a time.

I don't think length of feeds matters much if weight gain is going well. After the first few weeks of cluster feeding, my DD turned out to be a quick feeder, 5-10 mins max and she was done.

BeanoNoir · 09/08/2013 02:15

That's good. His weight loss at 3 days wasn't too bad at all so I'll just keep letting him do what he wants to do Smile

Thank you for replying to me
