'Tricks' to increase milk supply??

my neighbour has recently given birth to a little boy and is struggling with her milk supply. aswell as feeding as often as possible she has been trying the following:

  • non-alcoholic beer
  • fennel tea
  • nettle tea
  • fenugreek tablets
and I was just wondering if anyone out there has had a similar experience - or can suggest other 'tricks of the trade'. her gp is angling for formula but she's desperate to continue breast-feeding. I really feel for her but only have my own experience to draw on. Thought I'd consult the experts!! :)

Following a suggestion from my mother in law, I started taking a product based on malt, ovaltine chocolate light. It worked, but I still have to give my daughter some bottle milk: from 5-6 oz to 2 oz per feed.

Sorry if repeating. No time to read whole thread but wanted to put in my twopenn'th.

Daytime naps whereever possible.
Feeding on demand for as long as baby wants.
Feeding at night. (we lactate more at night)

It's supply and demand. These three things will increase milk.

apparently oats are also supposed to have a positive effect on supply....so, if she likes porridge!
Other then that, having the Baby's latch checked out, and feedins as often and as long as Baby wants, and also making sure not to switch breast unless Baby unlatches from one breast but wants more...!
