Sicky baby

My 5 month DD has always been a bit sicky. This week it's driven me mad. A new pair of trousers (for me) every day and using every single muslin in the house. I don't want to go down the medication route as we've come this far but I'm dreading giving her tummy time as she's sick everywhere! Any tips I might not have tried?

Is she bf or ff?
My ds is sick off ff but fine from bf

Can you try tummy time before the feed?

DoItTooJulia · 06/08/2013 21:58

It gets better from here on in! How well is she sitting? Have you got a bumbo or something similar? She is still a bit little to spend too much time in it, but I found the more upright the better after a feed.

Ds was quite sicky, but at 9 months is hardly ever sick and I think it's a combination of sitting up unaided, solids, less milk and maturer guts.

I found DD2 was very very sicky (she was ebf to 5.5 months btw) but it suddenly improved at around the 5 month mark and now at 6 months she is hardly sick at all any more. It may just stop as the bit that stops the milk coming back up develops, or she may have some sort of intolerance? It's probably worth a visit to the GP just to rule out anything like that.

I agree with the advice on here. DD's reflux peaked at around 4/5 months then got significantly better, and rarely happens now at 9 months. Like you, we didn't medicate her, just kept her upright after her feed.

FreeWee · 07/08/2013 08:10

She's EBF and I try and keep her upright but she's so keen to explore it seems unfair to keep her on my knee for so long. Also there's never seemed a particular length of time that works. She'll be sick if I sit her for 5 mins or 30. She's sick in the Bumbo and between her legs if I sit her up on her own. I can't really time/plan tummy time these days as if I put her on her back she'll roll onto her front! I used to time TT before feeds because she'd grumble when I did it so it was a good way of getting some practice but them comforting her when she got tired of it. Good to hear it may be peaking as I'm getting so fed up. My friends comment it's really quite a lot and frequently so I know it's not usual to them. I spoke to the GP about a month ago when I thought it had peaked but here's a new peak! The GP wasn't concerned by my description but she's getting weighed today so will talk to the HV.

I've heard that gps and hvs are reluctant to do anything if dc is gaining weight/otherwise ok.
I know what you mean about her being sick at any time though- dd could bring her feed up after an hour! And you can't keep an active baby still for that long.
It's a real pain as you're constantly changing clothes and reaching for muslins. We used to get through about 10 bibs a day even though we often put them on the radiator to dry/reuse Shock On all dd's early photographs her lovely outfits are hidden by an ugly bib Sad

Hopefully it's reached it's worst and will get better v soon.

Dreams that sound like us! including reusing the less messy bibs

She's put on 1lb in 2 weeks which at 5 months is pretty good so I should stop worrying and just get washing! Thanks for the reassurance.

You could try cow and gate instant carobel! Made such a difference for the sickness in my DS ( was sick after every feed but never bothered him and his weight gain is really good).

You an use it whether you Bf or Ff.

It's a thickener I add to each bottle but if you Bf then. You make it up as a paste and spoon feed before a BF
