Breast reduction and still able to breast feed?

I had a reduction 10 years ago and it was the most "aggressive" one (ie total removal of nipples and then replacement) - it is easier for me to assume that I won't be able to breastfeed (and going slowly nuts with the amount of "breast is best" stuff I see EVERYWHERE!) but have heard of a few people who have been able to......anyone had a reduction and can comment on how you feed?

I would talk to a specialist. I did meet a woman at a bf class (we were both "demonstrating" bf), who'd successfully BF after a reduction. It had been hard work, but she managed it. I would discuss your particular circumstances with a specialist.

I toon had this op ( same type and length of time) and successfully fed both dss for over 7 weeks, it wasn't easy but I was able to and did get that bonding they all talk about. Hope this helps. x

006 I was exactly the same (36HH) and at least I've had a proper life since having it done. Was told at the time I may not be able to, but midwife knows nothing about it, but will flag it up for her to find out - hadn't thought of the discomfort Shock

And thanks, Dee, nice to know it can be done - can I ask what you mean when you say it wasn't easy?

squishy, I would talk to a breastfeeding counsellor, rather than a midwife. Midwives are good on basic breastfeeding (if you're lucky) but not great on the less common stuff.

Oh, and \link{http://www.bfar.org\this} link looks relevant.

My boobs went from a 36E/F pre pregnancy to a G when pg and are now a J while breastfeeding. I hope to god that they come back down after I finish feeding, but now I'm pg with no 2 they may jsut get bigger! I'm planning a reduction after we have completed our family although it's an op that really scares me.

I think most people find that they're roughly the same size afterwards assuming that they haven't put on weight. Although, I think most post breastfeeding boobs are low and floppy!

Wow, thanks for that link notquitecockney!

Actually, to my pre-op friends' amazement, they haven't got bigger during pregnancy significantly (yet - 20 weeks).

The op is one that I don't regret at all - had 3 weeks of lots of pain, but since then haven't looked back.
