Especially on one side, ds gets very cross and pops off and nothing seems to be coming out when i squeeze. i have a very slow let down and I really don't have the time to express. DS is putting on weight -around 5oz a week- but he is falling down the centiles. He is very alert and is meeting milestones, smiling, rolling etc. sorry for typos, wrestling with ds

Forgot to say he sometimes has a sunken Fontanelle even after feeding. I gave him a bottle today as he was so upset and seemed hungry after a feed and he took about 2 oz

I think if he has a sunken fontanelle you should take him to the doc to get him checked over, try to get an appointment tomorrow?

His Fontanelle is fine today, but I will definitely take him to get weighed with the HV this week and see what they say. They never seem particularly concerned, dd was the same, very small but alert.

When you check his fontanelle is he lying down or held upright? It is always a little more sunken when the baby is upright so make sure you check it when lying down - you will probably find that it is not sunken.

Thanks dinner, I had noticed that, it's not sunken when he's lying down

You haven't started on the minipill recently have you? Just checking as its often used in post partum women for contraception as it isn't "supposed" to affect milk supply but it does dry it up for a significant
minority, as I discovered to my cost! Managed to re establish supply with 72 hours in bed skin to skin and a bit of domperidone ... Just thought it worth checking as it took me ages to twig.

Cheerymum · 06/08/2013 06:49

PS agree get your baby checked over xx

Jenjii · 06/08/2013 07:05

I think it's quite common to think your milk is drying up around this stage as your milk supply is settling down. You are probably producing your milk 'on demand' now so you don't get that boobs full of milk feeling you would have in the early days. This is normal and nothing to worry about. I would still get baby checked if you're worried about fontanelle though. Try not to panic with introducing a bottle as this could affect your supply. If baby only took 2 oz I would doubt they are genuinely still hungry.

Jenjii · 06/08/2013 07:11

Forgot to mention that if he does still seem hungry after a feed you can just pop him back onto opposite boob to one you last fed from. You will continue to produce milk as long as he sucks and this can help to boost supply generally.

Hi thanks everyone,
jenji I always pop him on the opposite side when he's finished one side, it's hard to know if he's getting much, unless he's gulp

Gulping. I'm wondering if he's having the 3 mth growth spurt a bit early, he was 2 wks late and seemed to have a spurt at 4 wks as well.

I'll take him in tomorrow to get weighed and have a chat with the Hv, mine is very sensible. 5 oz weight gain a week sounds ok to me, not amazing but ok
