I posted about my newborn ds constant feeding last week and got some really helpful advice.

Things are slightly better now as we've discovered he sleeps happily in a sling and feeding is going really well (although still much more frequent than 10-12 feeds a day and he will only sleep for more than one hour in the sling or on my chest). His weight was good at his check and he's pooing 6-7 times a day so I'm not too concerned about feeding. However I'm still worried about the lack of sleep.

Last night he fed at 12.30 slept from 1 til 1.50 then fed again till about 3 then fitfully slept between 3-5 in 10 min intervals with feeds in between. Then half hour sleeps with more awake time than asleep until about half 7 Then he was pretty much awake til dh took him out in the sling at 10.

The only other place he sleeps is carseat.

I was expecting some sleep deprivation but I thought I may get 2 hours at a time on occasion.

Co-sleeping doesn't work as he just can't sleep lying down. He won't even sleep being held unless he's upright.

Anyway I think the main problem seems to be stomach pain. He brings up milk after almost every feed and gets hiccups. Then he'll work himself up and want feeding again which makes it worse. It's a Vicious circle. He also draws his legs up and seems to be in a lot of pain whenever he has a bowel movement (which we know about as they are very audible Grin )

Does this sound normal or could it be colic or reflux? I know they are reluctant to diagnose this early but is there anything I can try dietwise? Is it worth cutting dairy or fruit?

Also the crib we have can be tilted. Can this be effective?

Sounds difficult, cogito :(

What makes you think he is in pain when he poos?

I can't see evidence of actual pain in your post.

Too soon to be sure of colic or reflux.

The feeding and sleeping is within normal for a baby this age.

Sorry forgot to include main point of the post!

He writhes and goes rigid and red. He arches his back - he's pretty much lifted himself into a shoulder stand a few times. It's difficult to explain but I have no doubt he's in pain and that it's digestive related.

I'd still be wondering if he was in actual pain, cogito - wriggling and squirming and back arching and knees bending and red face.....I know it sounds awful, but none of that has to mean pain. It sounds as if it is worth discussing it with the midwife though.
