Breastfeeding my 4 week old was going well up to a few days ago, he's started pulling of the nipple them trying to relatch and getting frustrated and crying because he can't get the suction right. He then repeats this over and over again. Any ideas why this would suddenly start? Thanks

My 4 week old DD does this. I take her off until she burps a few times and then we carry on. Sometimes she can't burp so I don't give any more milk as it makes it worse.

blythe is it all the time or is he more fussy in the evenings? Have you spoken to a Bfc? If you haven't got the helpline numbers try googling the National Breastfeeding Helpline.

Is there a Bfing Support Group near to you? They should be able to observe a complete feed and check DS for tongue tie.

I have this with DD (7 days old), particularly overnight. She really pushes my boob away while desperately rooting.
Will try to wind first but why would it be worse overnight? I thought maybe I don't get such an erect nipple overnight?

Remember are you getting any RL support? What does your MW say?

RememberingMyPFEs · 04/08/2013 18:07

JJJ, MW had said she thought it was change in flow as milk came in. I'm seeing her again tomorrow so will talk to her then. DD has been awesome today, wonder if it'll be better tonight too? It's all a bit overwhelming but she's gaining weight and seems content so that's the main thing?!?

Thanks JJJ I'm going to go to a bf clinic next week and see what they say.

remember yes do talk to your MW. It could be normal but talking with the MW should help to allay your worries. If you are still worried there's no harm in phoning one of the Bfing helplines or going to a Bfing Support Group.

Nothing in your post suggests there is a problem though Smile

blythe sounds like a good plan Smile
