Bottle sterilising

Is it right that if bottles go through the dishwasher, they don't then need to be sterilised?
When DS1 was small we didn't have a dishwasher but now we do and I'm wondering if I could free up a bit of space on the work-top, by getting rid of the steriliser!

I'd heard that - DW does get pretty bloody hot! How old is your DC?

He's 12weeks. Am BFing but have started expressing recently to get him used to the bottle.

I know he's still very young but the amount of crap that's already gone into his mouth - with the help of his big brother - makes me wonder if there's any point in sterilising bottles at all ConfusedWink

Mmmm - at that young I probably wouldn't risk it. I'd keep on with the sterilising. We sterilised until 8 months or so, though I felt the same about other stuff going into the baby's mouth!

But we formula fed, and made up enough bottles for the day every morning (though does that make a difference?)

The bottles would prob be fine, not sure about the teats though, would they be cleaned properly in a dishwasher?

Mums use dishwashers to sterilise in the US as their dishwashers run at much hotter temperatures than ours. US dishwashers aren't as energy efficient. It is not advised in the UK.
