She's still feeding Alot at 2, do I need to be worried?

Happy to still be be Bf her but alot of friends &
family have been commenting on how much she still
feeds.

She's 2 on June 16th & still feeds on demand throught the day. Sometimes twice a day, sometimes 10 times a day. I like the fact that
we are still bfeeding but have been getting a few
odd looks that shes now "big" & still feeding.

Anyone got a 2 or over bfeeder? whatcome backs
should I give to a disaproving aunt/mate. Don't feel I should have to justify myself but I do Sad

I think the 'natural weaning age' must vary depending on the child, but my link lower down (the Katherine Dettwyler one) says, based on comparison with other apes (so removing any societal pressures) anything between 2 1/2 yrs and 7 yrs.

I weaned ds1 from the breast at 10 months and looking back, if I had received better advice re. milk supply etc. we would have carried on for far longer. I'll have to see how long ds2 goes on for - and I'm hoping to get pregnant soonish too, so who knows, I might be having 'adventures in tandem feeding' too!

Again a Big Thank You for all the suppotive
messages. Mummypig the weaning link was great, & Tatties thanks for your compliment, you made my day Smile
Tyedye what a record!! & Harpischord am in awe of your feeding a 3yr old/7month old, think it's wonderful.

Mummypig, next time I get a raised eyebrow I may say that it would be perfectly normal to bf up to 7, that should give em something to think about Grin

Thanks mummypig for the useful link, and good luck with tandem feeding adventures. Harpsichord makes it sound so easy!

Agree with Adorabelle – wonderfull to hear about all this breastfeeding. I'm the only one I know breastfeeding a toddler in my area/circle, so it's very encoraging.

Tatties · 14/06/2006 21:18

Adorabelle - it's made my day that I made your day Grin

Mummypig, those links were heartwarming; Letting Go brought a tear to my eye. I think it is really important for us 'extended' bfeeders to read things like that every now again. It certainly helps keep me motivated when I am starting to feel a bit overwhelmed at times.

mummyto2littleprincess · 14/06/2006 22:18

i think you should breastfeed a 2yr old maybe you should give cows milk in a bottle as 2yrs is far to old to breastfeed

mummyto2littleprincess · 14/06/2006 22:19

oops i mean you shouldnt breastfeed a 2yrs old as there too old for that and should be on cows milk

moondog · 14/06/2006 22:20

Talking through yer arse Mummyto2princesses.
Cows' milk is for..........calves.

KateF · 14/06/2006 22:31

Well my dd3 is nearly 2 and I would much rather go on breastfeeding her than stick a bottle in her mouth. Why on earth should a bottle be better Shock?

Adorabelle · 14/06/2006 22:55

Shock mummyto2littleprincess. What difference
does it make how the 2 yr old is getting the milk?

I doubt very much you have had a happy & extended breast feeding experience otherwise you
wouldn't have made such an unfounded comment.

OP posts:
Adorabelle · 14/06/2006 22:56

Have you breastfed at all?

OP posts:
harpsichordcarrier · 14/06/2006 22:57

mummyto2littleprincess why is two too old to breastfeed, in your opinion?

chipmonkey · 14/06/2006 23:06

The World Health Organisation recommends breastfeeding until at least 2.

KateF · 14/06/2006 23:13

TBH I didn't plan to feed until any particular age but we have found ourselves at nearly 2 perfectly happy so we shall carry on and stuff anyone who doesn't like it! I didn't know about the WHO guidelines but it will be good ammunition if anyone questions it Grin.

Adorabelle · 14/06/2006 23:17

Chipmonkey, I use the WHO '2 years old' quote
all the time.
Most people are completely unaware
of the health/emotional benefits of bf past 2.

Now whenever I get an adverse comment I take the time to explain these benefits & most people end up agreeing that yes it may not be the norm to bf past 2, but my word it's a lucky child who does Grin

hunkermunker · 14/06/2006 23:20

Don't all jump up and down, ladies.

Wait for M22LP to explain herself.

Then jump up and down Wink

harpsichordcarrier · 14/06/2006 23:24
KateF · 14/06/2006 23:29

We've scared her off Grin. Obviously unable to justify daft comment!

Adorabelle · 14/06/2006 23:39

She was obviously just trying to be controversial, otherwise why else not defend her remark?

Doesn't bother me in the slightest how people
decide to feed their kids, what annoys me is
silly comments with no reason to back the comment up.
