DD grabs my face. Will a nursing necklace help (and where can I get one)

ok so this is a small issue compared with lots on this board, but I'm getting a bit tired of DD (9 months) constantly grabbing my mouth and nose while BFing. sometimes she pulls off and grabs my nipple too... Hmm and her nails are sharp!

I thought if she had something else to play with she might not do this. Has anyone tried a nursing necklace? did it work? any recommendations?

Thanks!

also hoping the might help keep her feeding longer, as she's very very distractible and seems to be less and less interested in milk.

watching with interest as 8mo DS will only feed with his hand in my mouth! It hurts!

Yes a nursing necklace might help. It helped us in similar circumstances.
Found ours at the jojo maman bebe sale.
Don't spend a fortune as you might not use it for long.
Google it and you will find LOADs!
Good luck.
You can start to be firm with lO at this age. If DS clawed at my face too much and could not be distracted with the necklace I would say No sternly and remove his hand. The next time I would say/do the same but tell him I would take him off if he continued. On the next time I would give a final warning and then after that I would unlatch him. & then put him back a few minutes later.
Often he was clawing at me because he was bored and so was easily occupied with a different activity!!

mama jewels do a lovely range xx

SpottyTeacakes · 29/07/2013 04:42

Ds does this. I got one from amazon seems to work...sort of....he usually tried to eat it whilst feeding though Confused

eBay have loads , it does help keep them focused for a while, 8/9 months is a very distractable age , my DD at 1 is still the same

I got some lovely African trade beads- all different and gave her something to twiddle other than my other nipple (I HATE that!). Also they're pretty so you don't mind wearing them.

DD seems to delight in grabbing a handful of my beard and pulling with all her might, she's 9m so has a fair amount of might.

minipie · 29/07/2013 09:52

Thanks all! I will have a look

Trying yes I should try to be firmer... I do take her hand away sometimes but then she stops feeding and rolls away. I want her to carry on feeding (I feel like she's cut down on milk too fast) so it's a bit of a catch 22 situation! If I try again a few minutes later she's not really interested as she's moved on to the next thing by then.

Spotty good point, I need to make sure it's safe to be chewed as everything is chewed at the moment.

Ninja I'm guessing you're not breastfeeding! Grin hmm maybe a shorter beard for now?

The eBay ones are safe and BPA free , they come with a leaflet x

My DS likes to run a toy car across my bosom. Maybe I need a nursing necklace too!

TheFallenNinja · 30/07/2013 09:03

I really struggled with breast feeding Smile

TheHuffAndPuffALot · 30/07/2013 09:16

I bought one for about £17, and found it was a total waste of money. I really wouldn't bother buying one.

minipie · 30/07/2013 09:41

Hmm well I tried a necklace yesterday, not a specific nursing necklace but one dd likes to play with. She just pulled off to play with the necklace instead Hmm

However I've just been feeding DD and she liked to play with the chunky buttons on a cardi I'm wearing today, while still feeding - I think it was better than the necklace because the buttons were in a better place for playing with while feeding (the cardigan is not done up so the buttons kind of hang to the side of my boob). So that helped... but only on one side...!

Now I just need a cardigan with buttons on both sides Grin

I have several of these necklaces from Monkey Mama and I really like them.

minipie · 30/07/2013 14:13

Thanks FoD - those are the ones I like most... might experiment a bit more with necklaces I have here, to see if dd will feed better with them, before splashing out.

You can get beautiful necklaces and bangles from 'gumigem' that are suitable for them to chew on when teething too. They are on google and on Facebook. Very reasonably priced too!
