Apologies in advance for the long post. Up until now i have just thought of my dd as being quite windy. Nothing that seems to cause her a lot of pain, but plenty of wriggling, grunting and general discomfort. We don't seem to get many burps after feeding, despite trying to wind for a good 15 mins. I have been using colocynth which seems to soften wind after feeds but doesn't actually increase how much we get out. My let down isn't especially fast and i can't really hear her swallowing a lot of air. I am also fairly sure that her latch is fine. It's almost as though the gas is forming further along/into her digestion iyswim. It has also just occurred to me that for the last while her nappies have not been yellow and seedy but yellow and foamy. She is thriving in every other way- weight, height etc- so it hasn't occurred to me up until now to query her bowel movements but am wondering if it could be related to her gas? Could it be some sort of food allergy or intolerance to something in my breastmilk? Maybe i should start cutting out dairy? Any thoughts welcome, thanks

There are some foods known to produce that reaction like brassicas (cabbage family) and grapes. It could be dairy. Try eliminating from your diet for a few days then reintroduce and watch the reaction.

Thanks stitch- have been up since 4.30 for the 3rd day in a row with a wriggly/grunting baby so willing to try anything!

If it is dairy you'll know in 48 hours ish after eliminating it from your diet but you should be REALLY strict: look out for whey and casein etc in ingredients too. If you think it IS helping then go to doc pronto and get diet advice. Prob should go anyway in case it is lactose linked in which case colief should help. Good luck - DD is now happy a d calm but it has been a sod of a time and I'd kill for some dairy. Roll on mature gut!

I had to go dairy free for my DS I was told it tskes 2 weeks to completely leave your system I had to do a 4 week exclusion diet and take a prescribed calcium and vit d supplement I re introduced dairy for one day and it definitely effects DS I have been dairy since. You will need to check everything as things you wouldn't expect contain milk...crisps...certain tomato sauce...kfc lol!!
good luck hope you resolve the problem xx
