Difficult last feed of the day - any advice?

Looking for some advice please.

My 5-month dd is ebf and feeds really well during the day. She has a bath before bed and then I give her last feed of the day in bed (quiet, calm atmosphere) before putting her down to sleep. Up until now, this feed has been fine and usually lasts around 40-60 mins. However, the last few nights have been really difficult. She will suck for a few seconds (maybe up to 30 seconds at a time) but then stop and cry. She's obviously still hungry because she'll then lunge at my nipple or grab my boob for more. It seems like she's frustrated by something but I can't work out what.

Weirdly if I hold her upright facing me, she'll start smiling and giggling so I don't think she's in pain but as soon as I lay her down again to go back on the boob she'll cry.

It means that the last feed of the day is taking a long time but she's not actually getting that much milk and so is waking at around 11pm for another feed whereas a couple of weeks ago she was sleeping through.

The only thing I can think of is that she's overtired and so getting fed up during the feed despite being hungry but wondered if anyone had any other ideas.

Thanks for reading!

Could be teething pain? Often uncomfortable when led down as pain & movement under gums can effect ears etc. Is t the same on both sides?

Thanks lazzarro. It does seem to be both sides, though possibly slightly worse on the right.

You might be right with over-tiredness. Maybe try moving feed earlier or do a split feed. I used to do split feed with dd1 & do it occasionally now with dd2. So you'd give a feed before bath, do bath & bedtime routine then another feed. This way she'll have had chance to feed bit before getting too tired & I often find that little top up gives a boost of energy to keep them going before bed. Worth a try!

Lazzarro - have been trying the split feed and so far so good - has been a great improvement the last few nights. Thanks for the suggestion Smile
