Curious - salty bm?

My DS went on a nursing strike 2 months ago (week before his first birthday, 4-0 feeds a day) and hasn't shown the slightest bit of interest since. Oh well, on to the next bit of life...

But I can still, very easily, squeeze milk out from both sides if i pinch then... And i have been known to taste the drop. Tasting it it now tastes salty - at first I thought it was time of day/sweat, but its not.... So I was wondering if there was any reason my previously sweet milk now tastes salty?

Really just is a question of idle curiosity!

Not to scare you, but I'm pregnant with dc2, was still BFing DD until very recently and when I started producing colostrum, that tasted salty (also when DD started to self wean). Any chance you're pregnant again and it's colostrum?

Pregnant? Grin

X post!

Mmmm well it wouldn't be an unwelcome surprise if i were, but the nursing strike coincided (2 days before) my periods restarting, and I'm sure I was salty at my last period 3 weeks ago. Damn you all, I'm going to want to poas now, and my period's not due til Friday.

You can tell I'm out of practice, I was due yesterday. Only dtd once this month ( too hot). Bad d&v today, not going to get out to test today...

Lol we were trying to get pregnant this time and I still didn't poas until 4 days after my period was due as I didn't realise. These babies can be very distracting :)

Sorry you aren't well. Good luck for when you POAS!

This is normal. When breastmilk starts to 'dry up' the water content becomes less and less. The sugars in milk are mainly in the watery components. That's why it doesn't taste as sweet. There is a small amount of sodium in breastmilk.

Ah, thank you tiktok, that would explain it!

Did you poas in the end OP?

Jenijena · 25/07/2013 19:30

I didn't, as I worked out my dates and I'm not due til tomorrow. But I started today anyway. Oh well, this is the month we officially start trying :)
