Have a question about BF now I'm back at work....

I'm still breastfeedig DD2 first thing in the morning, last thing at night and any night feeds she wakes for. I have been doing this for a while in preperation for my return to work, which was yesterday.

If she starts to not wake at night and my body readjusts to that will I still produce enough milk to do the early morning and the last feed of the day before bedtime?

Just that when she comes into me in the morning she feeds but I don't feel confident she's getting that much. Once I'm dressed and running round packing stuff up for the day she cries and I give her about 200 ml of formula.

My boobs aren't leaking during the day but I seem to be able to satisfy her for that last feed ok.

Is it possible for your body to be able to just produce the right amount for 1 feed a day?

Yes when I did the same as you when I went back to work after DD was born. Morning, evening and any night feeds. I did this for a while and then dropped the evening feed so I was just feeding first thing in the morning for a couple of months.

Oh wicked Smile
So don't want to give it up but really can't be doing with hand expressing in the loos that are shared by everyone in the building.
So happy, thanks.

Hi thomcat,

From what i can remember with ds1 we got down to just a morning and night feed when i returned to work. I didn't leak during the day either. we carried on like that for months

I honestly believe that our bodies can adjust to produce exacylt what baby requires

please excuse typing, 6 month old trying to help me Smile

Am currently doing this. Went back when 2nd was 8 months old, she's now 12 months and we're still going strong.

Thomcat · 07/06/2006 10:58

Oh Pamina3, yo0u could be my breastfeeding twin. Both back at work yesterday and both working 3 days a week and both hoping to be able to sneak in extra feeds on days we're home with htem. Good luck to you too hon'.
How are you feeling about being back? I feel a definate phyusical emptiness above my stomach, but I really like my job and it's actually quite nice to be here, doing something different for a change. It's noit quite as bad as I thought it might be. Hope you're ok with it.

So good to hear you all managed it. Feel much better. Was getting worried becasue of that mroning feed and not feeling I was producing enough for her.

Hello pamina

Blu · 07/06/2006 11:12

Another breakfast / supper bf-er here too, stopped when DS was about 22 months.
Good luck!

Thomcat · 07/06/2006 11:23

Well done Bundle, that's fab.

Pamina3 - sounds great. Hope your dream comes true sweet Smile It all seems to be goping well here actually. Been getting out of the house ok. My DP is out of the door as I get out of bed so no help but it's ok. And I leave work at 5 so back in throught the door with both girls by 6pm which is nice.

I carried on giving DS3 one feed a day for ages - until he was 15 months. 'Twas really nice and I'm a bit sorry we stopped then really.

talked to dd2 about giving up when she was 3, she said Ok, but carried on for a further few weeks..until one day she said "mummy, it's gone, there's no milk" (on right hand side) - so carried on with left hand side and then she just stopped herself (has been having cows milk in a bottle for ages). it was lovely coming to a natural no-struggle end Smile

Tinker · 07/06/2006 11:38

Fine here pamina. Still half-term so still off. Smile

Jackstini · 07/06/2006 11:44

Thomcat & Pamina - great to hear your stories. I am on second week back at work and doing same thing - morning, evening & night time feeds and daytime on the 2 days a week she is at home with dh and I am working.
Relief to hear it is going ok - do either of you manage to express much too? I am getting some but not enough to provide 3 feeds a day for the 3 days at nursery!

snuffy143 · 07/06/2006 12:13

Hi. My DD and DS are both well past this stage but I remember morning and night feeding very fondly. They both gave up daytime feeds at about aged one and I carried on feeding am and pm until they were almost two. So, for a year, I just fed at night and first thing in the morning - my body adjusted very quickly and I went down to normal boob size and they just had a bit - about 4-6oz each time, I think. It was lovely, continued the bond and I always felt very positive about it. Good luck!
