I am going to be new in town from Setember & I am worried about what opinion is there in UK about BF as per demand after 1year old... Thanks for your sincer comments.

This is impossible to answer, really :) Difference of opinion will vary from person to person... And that includes you. So if it is working for you and your little one, then do not let your location determine any more than simply where you live, at least in reference to breastfeeding.

I think there will be as many opinions as people, though the vast majority won't give you their opinion.

I live a fair way outside of London, but am there every day. I would probably not notice you feeding a toddler as it is normal to me, but if I did notice, I'd give you a smile as I remembered feeding little ones :)

I live in London and have a 17 month old who I still BF
Haven't had any issues myself.

Just recently I have nursed her by the paddling pool, in the park and in a restaurant... no issues at all...

she is teething and bf is also for comfort

Good luck!

Do what suits you. It's none of anyone else's business really!

SpooMoo · 10/07/2013 10:28

Where will you be living? Or do you mean just a holiday? I live in SW London and there are loads of families and babies here, I've seen plenty of mums breastfeeding, everywhere.

Either way you should be fine, bear in mind the law says you can breastfeed in public/cafes etc.

TheBookofRuth · 10/07/2013 10:34

I live just outside London (and lived there till DD was one), and have never had any comments about my breastfeeding her - she's now 17 months.

Quelita · 12/07/2013 22:17

Thanks so much for your positive comments!
I was worried thinking I might be judged as the stadistics say very low percentage of women go further 12m of BF.
spooMoo we are moving to SW London, so it's been specially great to read your post Smile

I found the UK much more tolerant of extended BFing than where we lived at the time. It's quite BF friendly in general I find, although that may just be a comparison.

NomDeClavier · 12/07/2013 23:07

Oh and I wouldn't worry about the stats. Though very few do BF beyond 12m I think a lot would have liked to, or just aren't counted in the stats because they've reduced to just an evening feed after going back to work for example.

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 12/07/2013 23:13

It's rare but not unprecedented, you definitely see women feeding older babies from time to time. And there are laws to protect you if anyone gets arsey. You'll be fine.

SpooMoo · 12/07/2013 23:27

Brilliant, Quelita! SW London is nicknamed "nappy valley" as it's full of young families. You might want to find/attend your local La Leche League group meeting, often attended by mums who BF longer than 12mo.

StitchAteMySleep · 12/07/2013 23:36

I live in SW London and have a 16 month old. I have breast fed her in cafes, parks, on benches and buses, no problem. Also fed my older dd to 2 years old, never had a comment. I see lots of mums feeding over 1's too.
