argh - green poo has returned...

So when my milk came in, my little girl struggled with latch and didn't regain weight fast enough and was producing green poos. Thought we'd cracked it in the last week - latch was checked and good, poos turned mustard and weight improved.
But last two nappy changes had green poo which I understand is a bad thing - not getting quality milk isn't it? Not sure what to do now and unfortunately not getting great support - mum saying it's my fault if my 19 day old little girl isn't thriving and I need to start thinking about switching to formula.
Please help - feeling very low, am offering boob every time she is fussing. Had been swapping sides when she comes off, but I guess I need to keep putting her back onto same side to try to get some richer milk? Any other ideas I could try? Or should I give her a little formula top up? ( I had been expressing top ups but so angry after row with mum I can't express anything at the moment)

Don't let your Mum make you feel like that breastfeeding is hard enough :(
My DS is 6 weeks old and over the past week he had a couple of days of green poo and I panicked rang the health visitor who said as long as baby is well in himself not too worry breast fed babies poo is unpredictable. She also told me to feed off the same boob rather keep swapping to make sure he is getting all the good stuff. Sometimes I express a little first.
take care xx

Ooh Angry re your mum

you are right of course green= foremilk

not terrible in itself as long as fontanelle not sunken

drink some Brew and gather Wink - when i am stressed i also do not have let down response

Same side 20 mins? Confused then burp before other side

I was also shown to make fist and with knuckles to smooth down skin from top of breast down toward nipple Grin how this was meant to push hindmilk down god knows or maybe it was gullible ebf mum week but I used to do it anyway if only to psychsomatically stimulate lactation

good luck op xxxx

My 12 week old has been on fully formula fed for two weeks now and since the switch has been having greenpoos. Hv says ththis is normal so don't think it would make much difference switching! You're doing a great job!

We were told that so long as they're not frothy (!), green is fine, DS' dirty nappies cover the colours of the rainbow...

Green poo mean nothing in an otherwise healthy, thriving baby. It absolutely does not mean 'not getting quality milk' - probably all babies have green poo some of the time and a few babies have it all the time.

Your mother is being unkind.
Your problem is not with green poo or bf, it's with your mother :(

Swapping sides when your baby indicates she's done with side one is just fine.

Thanks all - she seems to be well otherwise and feeding often. Even in this heat she doesn't have a sunken fontenelle and for no reason the poo has gone back to yellow!
I do need to sort my mum out - there is no problem with my feeding just with the support or rather lack of support I'm getting!

My baby has been having sticky green poo the last few days. I have read that green poo is a sign of more fore milk than hind milk. I have also read that there is more water content in your milk when the weather is hot as it adapts according to conditions and the needs of the baby. So, I am assuming that the green poo is down to the fact that the milk is more watery (akin to fore milk) in this heat.

What your mum said is not helpful at all. Even if, for some reason, your daughter was not thriving because there was a problem with your milk supply it would not be "your fault".

My baby has had green poo for about 3 weeks now. He also has reflux and green poo can indicate a bit of a stomach upset. HV not particularly worried, tho my LO has been having issues gaining weight - prob due to pain of reflux and not wanting to feed. I have tried alsorts of thing to try and get it back to normal but am currently expressing each feed so I can check hoe much he's getting and that I've emptied each breast. Exhausting but reassuring for ne and supported by my doc.

Like you everyone (mom, hubby etc) kept suggesting formula but I'm ignoring. I asked doc just in case and he said no as if baby has upset stomach then formula will be even harsher on him. That is the reasoning I'm giving family as to why I'm not going down formula route...yet. my advice - if your LO is well, gaining weight etc then fine. If not, go and see a doc but ignore ignorant friends & family either way!!
