Screaming, screaming, screaming and refusing evening feed.

DS is 7 weeks and loves the breast. Usually the breast comforts whatever is wrong and he is a good eater although his enthusiasm means he does gulp air and I can hear it going down. However at around 6.30pm each night DS goes crazy, he shows all the signs of wanting a feed: head pecking, grumbling etc but when I put him on the breast he takes a few manic air filled gulps and then starts to arch his back and scream and scream. He then refuses to latch on and just screams. I find it very hard to comfort him. Some nights I can rock him calm, some nights I bounce him or use white noise but it takes ages and he never lets me feed him again until he has had a good few hours sleep.

Does anyone have any ideas what is going on? Any tips on how to make his evenings happier? Why does milk seem to cause him pain at this time of day and not at other times?

Can you usually get the wind back up during the day? Would baby massage (clockwise circular massage on the tummy around the tummy button, rub olive oil on your fingers), before the screaming starts help?

My DS screamed awfully in the evenings too, until we started using Infacol at every feed, which helped with the wind. When we stopped using it, the screamy evenings started again.

Could be colic?

I can usually get burps up in the day and I do get them up when he starts the screaming too but he still keeps screaming and he holds his body rigid. He seems furious to be taken away from the breast yet won't latch on. We tried Infacol but gave it up in favour of gripe water which seemed to more obviously help get the wind out but obviously is not helping that much.
