Impossible amount of wind at nearly 5 months

My baby is 20 weeks old, so supposedly on her way to leaving wind problems behind, but they seem to be getting worse if anything. She didn't used to cry so much, but has always suffered discomfort and has thrashed around pretty much since birth with trapped trumps. She's purely breastfed. In between the bouts of trapped wind, she is a super happy baby. We've tried every remedy we can lay our hands on (we're living in South America now, so both British makes and South American ones), I massage her tummy regularly, try to feed her in an as upright position as I can, wind her thoroughly for at least 10 minutes after each feed especially at night and if there's no sign of any burps. She is quite chubby and gaining weight steadily, has several wet nappies each day and throughout the night. She has gone from pooing around 10 times a day when newborn to just every 3 to 7 days now, but the poos are always liquid and healthy looking. The latest remedy tried was Colief, which I had been putting off as it seemed such a faff, and I was starting to think it may have been helping, when it ran out after just 4 days!! And I can't get hold of it here. She still had a huge amount of trumps, but didn't seem to be in quite as much pain, although we still had a few screaming sessions. I would like to try cranial sacral massage but can't find any osteopaths where we are. Over the last 4 weeks or so, the wind and pain seems to be getting worse. She has always been very mobile and does manage to squeeze some out herself, being on her tummy helps, but even on her front, she wakes up in terrible pain in the night, often the only thing that will calm her down is more breast milk, which I worry is only exacerbating things especially if it's less than 2 hours since the last feed. I'm still hoping against hope that she'll grow out of it, am I right to do so or should I be worried that her pain is worse than before? Please tell me someone else has been through this and come out the other side!

Have you tried cutting dairy out of your diet? Helped no end with my sons wind.

Yes and it does end, I used to think my DD might just float away with all the trapped wind. It just takes time for their system to develop. You'll be weaning soon (?) so just hang in there and keep her away from sharp objects lest you burst her.

No I haven't tried cutting dairy out, not for any longer than a day at a time. do you reckon I should?

thanks for the vote of confidence - does it end once you start weaning then? I was considering baby led weaning....

I don't know Smile
Made a difference for my LO you need to give it a few days to be sure. Just be careful with hidden dairy. Might be worth a go. If you get to the end of day three and there has been no improvement at all at least you can rule it out.
Hope it is that as at least it's a quick fix Wink watch out for sweet potato when weaning, the gas that caused....

Thanks, I'll give it a try.

My ds went through a similar phase at the same age. Apparently it's a prime time for problems as it's when the gut begins to mature ready for solids (or something, can't remember exactly). He would be solid with trapped wind some nights, it was really upsetting. He just grew out of it after maybe 4 weeks or so, he was completely free of it after we started solids but I don't know if they helped or he would have got better anyway. It's really horrible but it does pass (and no remedies I found helped). Hope it improves swiftly
