storing expressed breastmilk

I'm currently topping up my 16 day old with expressed breast milk to get her back up to birthweight. We are nearly there and I'm starting to think ahead to getting some stores of breast milk in the freezer.
Each time I express the maximum I seem to be able to get is 1oz. Does each session need to be in a separate bag? Or could I express 1oz and put it in fridge, then 2hrs later and get another 1oz and mix it with the previous one so it's a bigger amount in the bag? Potentially could I do this a few times so I have 3-4 oz bags in the freezer?
Thanks in advance for any advice...

I was told (expressing for donation) that I could collect over a 24hour period and then freeze.

Having used bags for us, the milk bank asked for little bottles (they provide) which go straight onto most pumps. Much easier than bags but slower to defrost IME.

Thanks mspickle - that sounds great that I can combine sessions...
If I can get a decent store of milk we may get to have a night of freedom and get grandparents to do some babysitting ;-)

Hi stuck sorry if this is a daft thing to mention - just remember to leave space at the top of whatever your freezing into (bags or bottles) as the milk expands when it freezes!
I can get 125ml max into a 130ml donation bottle.
Also probably sounds obvious but do date your stash so you know what order to use it up in! IIRC it can be kept for 6m in a proper freezer.
Good luck :)

Thanks candy, it's a good one to mention - fortunately it was on the instructions with the bags and I am the sort of person that reads them! Unfortunately daisy has been weighed again and isn't making fast enough progress so all top ups are still going into her for the near future...

I feel like I say this a lot on here but has she been assessed for tongue tie?

StuckOnARollercoaster · 03/07/2013 20:39

Hopefully at breastfeeding session on Friday there will be an expert there for the area - it was only a nursery nurse there last week. If they can't assess then I'll look for an nct or lll group but I think they might be a drive away whereas this is easier as my sure start centre is less than 5 mins walk which is copable with my stitches!
It has crossed my mind as she does latch on nicely now bit I am questioning how efficiently she is getting at the milk. There are plenty of dirty nappies so I know she is getting milk but possibly not enough for better weight gain.

Good luck for Friday! Ask the expert to check for posterior and anterior ties-ds's posterior tie meant that he didn't quite got enough of the full fat milk and the snip helped.
