La Leche League: Like minded people?

I am nursing my toddler during pregnancy (toddler just over 2 and 25 weeks pregnant) and I barely know anyone else who breastfeeds, let alone a toddler or during pregnancy. (well, one person from the BF group I went to still breastfeeds her toddler) Those I do know who breastfeed or have breastfed only really do so for a few weeks or months and don't have the same parenting style as me. I'm an NHS peer supporter currently, but even there most view breastfeeding as food only, think allowing comfort at the breast is odd etc. Sad

I wouldn't say I'm 'militant' at all. I do use a pram as well as slings, don't always bed share, but I am child led. Am I likely to meet like minded Mums if I go to the LLL meetings? It would be nice to find some other Mum friends who have similar views. Also, can I attend the baby meetings while I'm pregnant and if so, can I do that with or without my toddler? (I know they have toddler meetings too, but due to the timing of the meetings it's not always possible for me to attend)

Sure you will, it's not just full of crystal-waving, knit-your-own-tampon types Wink And yes, you can go when pregnant and with a toddler. I've been to meetings where mums have had their older children there too. You can always phone ahead or email if you want to check. The meetings are always really laid back and they have excellent cake.

Yes definitely! Also, the more people who go to LLL mtgs and support it, the more work it can do.

Yes, I was a member. A great organisation.

La Leche League is there to support breastfeeding rather than push any particular parenting philosophy. There is no requirement to extended breastfeed, use slings or attachment parent.

I've been made very welcome at my local group. Currently bfing DS2 and he's only 14 weeks and I gave up bfing my DS1 through choice at 12mo. I have only started going since DS2 was born - didn't realise they had local groups and meetings previously.

There was a pregnant lady at the last meeting I went to, I took my DS1 (3yo) as well as the baby and children of all ages are always welcome.

People veer towards the lentil weavery but it varies - I use a pram, disposable nappies, did a mix of purees and BLW with DS1, don't co-sleep and have given formula in order to have a night out because I can't be arsed to express. All fine. Others are feeding 3yos +, only use slings, cloth nappies, etc, etc. The members whose children are older tend to be SAHMs but the younger ones all work, albeit many of us are on mat leave.

Thanks all. I suppose I just didn't want to drag myself along to a meeting if I probably wouldn't meet any like minded types. I will go along.

wouldbeharrietvane Grin that's encouraging then....
