Is it possible to increase breastmilk supply after 2 years?

Hello - I've had some wonderful advice from this board before, particularly when we had some problems getting things established in the beginning. We've made it to 2 years (next month!) and little man is down to a morning feed either every day or every other day.

I wondered, is it possible to boost my supply after so long? Have never had any supply problems (apart from oversupply!) in the past but as DS has naturally started to tail off I feel that I'm producing hardly any. Often he has a few sucks and then changes his mind as he doesn't feel like waiting for the let down (which I always uses to feel quite I tensely but the last month or so I don't really feel anything). One side in particular doesn't seem to be up to much at all.

I guess I'm mainly asking as DS has a poorly tummy at the moment, off his food. He's happy having cows milk but I wish I could get some more BM into him too. Would pumping sessions or herbal remedies have any benefit such a long way down the line? I've been offering more often today but apart from once, he hasn't wanted to.

Thank you for any help or advice :)

Aside from your DS's poorly tummy at the moment it does seem as if you are reaching a natural tailing off from bf-ing. I think it would take a lot of effort to get your supply back up, such as frequent pumping. I guess you are thinking your DS will want to feed more if the supply is better? This may be the case but then it's likely to go back to this scenario again eventually. Could you do something else cuddly when he normally would come for a feed, eg make up a story or read?

If you want to get more fluids into him when he is poorly try a re-hydrating solution like Hydralyte, fed by syringe 5ml at a time at a slow rate, starting with 20ml in one session if vomiting is a factor then waiting at least 30mins for more, building up the total volume given to a maximum of 100ml in each session. Also it can be made up a little stronger & frozen to be taken as ice chips or ice pops.

Thanks for your reply. Before he got ill I was quite happy that he was winding down by his own choice. Last time he has sickness and diarrhoea the only thing he could keep down was BM and he still wanted to feed often. This time around, he's taking plenty of water and cows milk - I just wanted to see if it would be possible to boost my supply to maximise the antibodies he gets.

Will just carry on as we are then for now - I guess that he's getting any at all is a bonus :) Thanks again.
