Would aptamil comfort help with all this awful wind?

DD is 15w, never been a lover of her bottle (she is ff), had some reflux in first 6 weeks, that settled down, still a fussy feeder with early teething etc, then a couple of weeks ago she had an appalling attack of diarrhoea (caused I suspect by my bloody SIL sticking a dirty finger into her mouth, but that's a whole other story...)

Since then her wind, that used to be bad but was getting better, is just awful again. Pain and waking herself up with it. Both burps and farts!!

Saw the doctor to check her out after diarrhoea and he said could be struggling to digest her milk after the nasty gastro attack. He didn't think she is allergic to lactose or milk per se.

I am considering a switch to a comfort milk as I just wonder if a lower lactose formula might help her a bit. We were using colief for a bit but it is such a faff and I wondered if a comfort milk might be a good idea.

I am considering fairly early weaning, in a few weeks time, as she just has never been a fan of her bottle and was wild with excitement a few weeks ago when (on a hot day hen she was refusing the bottle and I was worried about fluids) gave her the milk with a spoon. I have never seen her eat with so much gusto and happiness. Her feeds are a miserable battle :(

Would a switch to the comfort milk be advisable or not if I am thinking of weaning in two or three weeks time? Should we just tough it out with regular aptamil so as not to introduce too many changes in a short time?

Any advice would be so so much appreciated.

Hi, slightly different in that my dd definitely had reflux but like your little one she really struggled drinking from the bottle and you could really see her delight when, at 12 months, we changed over to a beaker. In fact, I have 3 dc and she was the only one who didn't battle to keep the bottle, she was so glad to see it gone.

Sorry, I'm rambling. But to answer your question, when we changed dd to the comfort milk we saw a huge improvement. The wind was greatly reduced, there were less tears, less hiccups and less brought back up.

Her poo changed slightly after switching formulas so don't be alarmed by that btw. But I would absolutely try it as see how you get on.

My DS was very like your DD.But the reflux never went away. Our MW reccomended C&G omni comfort.
It was a such a change for him,the enzymes are more broken down,so their is less for their little tummy to do,less gas and less pain.I also gave some infacol before his bottle, was never sure if it did anything.
I would give it a go,for at least three days (unless an awful reaction to new milk) as I was advised it takes a few days to settle.
The milk is made slightly differently to regular milk so if you do change read the box carefully.
My DS was weaned early, though this was done under peads due to his awful reflux and colic, once we got away from the milk things did improve. But this was done under medical advice.
Hope she settles soon.

Sorry, I should've said, we switched to comfort when she was a couple of month old and she continued on it until we introduced cows milk at 13 months.

I used to use infacol with my DS, tat was less faff because it comes before the feed. Have you tried a different brand of milk? I found DS was better with Hipp than aptamil. It could also still be reflux, I think you should talk to your GP again before you wean at 18 weeks, that seems very early to do it without medical advice.

Thanks so much everyone!
I may try the switch and give it a few days... It's just awful having a battle when we feed! Though she is happier the last two days if she is allowed (I am not exaggerating) to hold the bottle herself. Think maybe she is happier when she can pull it away if she has wind looming...
